Description Job Summary
The Network & Systems Administrator must be able to excel in customer service. Promote effective use of technology by City employees through system acquisition, implementation, maintenance, and support of server systems, personal computers and networking equipment. Stay abreast of emerging technologies and products. Train City employees in a lab or one-on-one environment on hardware, operating system and application usage.
The salary range for this position is $40.99 - $55.34 per hour with hiring range of $40.99 - $48.17 , depending on qualifications and experience. This opportunity will be available to applicants until filled with first reading of candidates beginning Monday June 22, 2026.
Essential Functions
Research, design, recommend, purchase, configure, install, and troubleshoot network, server, storage and associated hardware and software to support all City business.
Research, define, create, and manage the processes for the roll-out of new hardware and software.
Evaluate, recommend, design, configure, and implement products for Internet, storage, virtualization, email, data backup, anti-virus, cyber security, and other relevant technologies.
Design, configure, install, maintain, and troubleshoot a large-scale corporate network infrastructure that utilizes a wide variety of devices, protocols, services and devices.
Perform daily system administration tasks such as server backup, user account maintenance, performance monitoring, and tuning.
Resolve hardware, software, and training problems for end users.
Establish and maintain standards for network equipment architecture, configuration, support and maintenance.
Analyze and stay abreast of technology issues that may benefit the City’s fiscal and operational requirements.
Ensure compliance to all computer software copyright and license regulations for all computer software on PCs.
Other Job Functions
Although this position does not have authority to independently approve financial commitments, the incumbent’s knowledge, decisions, and recommendations are frequently the basis for the larger financial commitments that are made. The incumbent does have limited authority to make approved purchases with their Purchasing Card.

Job Level and Management Expectations
There are no supervisor/manager expectations required for this position.
Qualifications Education
Required: 4 Year/Bachelors Degree in Information Systems or closely related field.
An equivalent combination of education and or experience may substitute for education requirements on a year for year basis.
Experience
Required: 4 years' experience with Windows server, OS administration, and large network management.
Certifications
Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Advanced knowledge and experience of Windows Server administration in a Microsoft Hyper‑V virtualization environment.
Advanced knowledge and experience of storage virtualization, management and administration.
Advanced knowledge of and experience with networking and network protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, DNS, DDNS, DHCP, SSH, VPNs), IP routing protocols including RIP, BGP, OSPF, IP Multicast, MPLS.
Advanced knowledge and experience of Windows Server Administration.
Thorough understanding of modern service providers, TCP/IP data networks using standards and technologies including but not limited to: Ethernet, OSPF, IGMP, STP, RSTP, 802.1q, 802.11n, and 802.11ac.
Experience with Policy Based Routing, Quality of Service, Wireless 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, virtual networks, NAT, ACL controls, WebSecurity/URL Filtering, IPSec, Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Malware Prevention.
Experience with SDN, SD‑WAN products and services.
Working knowledge of structured cabling systems and network facilities.
Experience in firewall design and in network security including: Device Hardening, IDS/IPS, SIEM, Firewalls, and IPSec, vulnerability assessment and intrusion detection.
Strong WAN experience managing global network infrastructure.
Comprehensive knowledge of the current Microsoft Windows Server and Workstation OS.
Knowledge and experience in the administration of Microsoft 365.
Ability to balance large project demands with day-to-day support calls.
Must possess superior customer service skills, the ability to make sound judgments, be capable of innovative problem solving, and exhibit patience and understanding when dealing with stressful situations.
Must be able to comfortably teach in classroom environment of up to sixteen students.
Network hardware topologies and troubleshooting skills.
Computer hardware and applications used include: Microsoft Hyper‑V, Dell Servers, Desktops, and Laptops, HP‑Aruba Networking Equipment, Nakivo Backup, MS Office, SQL Server, Exchange Server, Microsoft 365, iSCSI SANs, and others.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Frequent: Minimal physical effort typically found in clerical work. Primarily sedentary, may occasionally lift and carry light objects. Walking and/or standing as needed and minimal.
Frequent: Light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
Frequent: Exposure to routine office noise and equipment.
Occasional: Exposure to hazards typically found in general office environments where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident.
Additional Working Demands / Conditions
Will be required to use a vehicle to get from one location to another.
Ability to perform cabling tasks in physically undesirable locations (dirty, limited space).
Work is sometimes needed on evenings or weekends.
Will be on‑call for network and system support issues.
