Engineer II, Backend APIs – Reporting & Insights Team Los Angeles, CA • Broomfield, CO – Hybrid (remote: Monday & Friday; in‑office: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) Responsibilities Design, develop, test, and release APIs that power reporting and analytics applications. Collaborate daily with Product, UI, and Data engineers to translate requirements into functional services. Build intuitive, well‑documented APIs with clear OpenAPI contracts, robust versioning, pagination, filtering, batching, and defined SLAs/SLOs. Champion code quality through extensive testing, observability, documentation, code reviews, and design documents. Own production services, including dashboards, alerting, capacity and load testing, cost‑aware design, and reliability improvements. Leverage AI‑assisted tools throughout the development process. Qualifications 3+ years of software engineering experience. Primary development experience in the latest JVM version of Java for high‑throughput, low‑latency back‑end web services. Hands‑on experience with PostgreSQL (or other RDBMS): modeling, migrations, indexing, and query optimization. Proficiency with Git/GitHub and modern team practices (reviews, trunk/branch strategies, code ownership). Clear, empathetic communication and a collaborative mindset. Nice to have: exposure to cloud providers (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and container orchestration (Docker/Kubernetes). Experience with asynchronous programming, high concurrency, and frameworks such as Vert.x or Dropwizard. Knowledge of event‑driven or streaming architectures. Understanding of authN/Z patterns (OAuth2/JWT), rate limiting, and API security. Observability tools and practices (metrics, tracing, logs) and load/performance testing. Experience with Real‑Time Bidding (RTB), SSPs, DSPs, and ad delivery systems is a strong plus. Compensation & Benefits Base salary: $125,000 – $135,000 (CA) or $115,000 – $125,000 (CO). Actual compensation determined by location, experience, skills, and internal equity. Annual performance‑based bonus. Equity (NASDAQ: MGNI).
