Job Summary Responsible for performing intermediate level technical work associated with the planning, engineering, design, analysis, research, development, testing, construction, maintenance, and operation of company equipment and facilities. Customer Design Technicians prepare required orders, obtain right‑of‑way, implement recommended system improvements (such as capacity improvements, pole replacements, recloser reconditioning), and collaborate with residential, commercial and industrial customers to determine their new service, upgrade, and relocation needs. What You’ll Do Design facilities required to meet customer needs, determining costs to be passed on and billing accordingly. Contact the Project Design Group for advice on system improvements. Obtain simple easements and consult with the Right‑of‑Way Agent for more complex easements. Participate in storm restoration work, assessing storm damage after acquiring sufficient field experience. This may require travel within and outside Indiana. Learn and apply AEP Distribution Standards, NESC Codes, OSHA Rules, AEP Accounting Practices, CIAC Rules, AEP Tariffs, and Safety Rules and Procedures. Become proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Distribution Design Studio, Electric Office, GIS mapping system, PDS, EEMS, TLM, STORMS, OPS, JERI, CAD and other Microsoft applications. What We’re Looking For Technical proficiency from an associate degree in Electrical/Electronic/Civil/Mechanical Engineering Technology or related field. Knowledge of relevant standards, codes, regulations, equipment, material, systems, and business processes. Basic computer literacy and application skills. Ability to work under coaching and collaborate with others to supply information and seek assistance. Planning and organizational skills to prioritize routine work and maintain accurate records. Problem‑solving and initiative to resolve technical issues and improve processes. Effective communication, both orally and in writing, with internal and external customers. Team‑player attitude and open, friendly interaction with people. Decision‑making skills based on sound judgment and job knowledge, and understanding of local organizational responsibilities. Minimum Requirements Technician (SG 05): High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of related utility industry experience, or an associate’s degree in an engineering technology field plus 2 years of related experience. Valid driver’s license required. Technician Senior (SG 06): High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of related experience, or an associate’s degree in engineering technology field plus 4 years of related experience. Valid driver’s license required. Compensation Technician Associate (SG 04): $54,063–$67,578. Technician (SG 05): $63,496–$79,369. Technician Sr. (SG 06): $74,551–$93,189. Physical Demand Light work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or 10–12 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 5–6 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Requires walking, standing, and occasional pushing/pulling of arms or legs. Physical demands exceed those of sedentary work.
