Description: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist utilizes imaging, computer, and other equipment as appropriate to produce and retain high quality diagnostic images. The role meets or exceeds department, organization, and industry standards. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of human anatomy and physiology, as well as image quality. The technologist prepares patients for procedures and educates them while responding to their questions or concerns. Ensures age-appropriate communication, safety needs, patient education, and principles of growth and development. Demonstrates an understanding of patient positioning, imaging technique, radiation safety, infection control, and quality control techniques. Oversees and trains students providing patient care and treatment as part of their training. Verifies the ordered exam and its appropriateness utilizing assessment data and growth and development principles. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients. Positions the patient and equipment to achieve optimal images. Works with physicians to evaluate images and determine if additional images are needed. Applies radiation safety techniques and devices to minimize exposure to patients and staff. Educates patients about the procedure and responds effectively to their needs and concerns. Ensures communication and safety practices are appropriate for the patient's age and developmental stage.
