Job Title Provider is a Critical Care/Pulmonary trained physician or Internal Medicine trained physician with significant Critical Care/Pulmonary experience. Provider must be certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and certified by, or eligible to be certified by the ABIM in the subspecialties of both Pulmonary and Critical Care. Provider will provide both clinical and administrative Critical Care/Pulmonary services at VANCHCS. Provider is expected to document into CPRS in a timely manner, participate in Process Improvement/Quality Assurance projects and participate in usual Medical Staff activity including committee participation. Direct supervisor is Chief of Critical Care and Pulmonary Section. Major Duties/Responsibilities:
These duties will include, but not be limited to the evaluation and treatment of patients with complex pulmonary issues, interpretation of pulmonary function and 6-minute walk testing, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, insertion of indwelling pleural catheters, pulmonary consultation, supervision of Respiratory Therapists, and performance of other duties assigned by the Chief, Medicine Services and the Chief, Pulmonary and Critical Care at the VA NCHCS. This position may be an academic position and have an affiliation with UCD and maintenance of academic standing and scholarly activities may be mandatory. Available for inpatient on combined ICU Pulmonary Service Team. Provide independent care delivery for chronic, acute, or same day medical needs. The type of care is served to the Veteran population, with diseases consistent with those seen in the general population namely diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, mental health disorders, etc. Responsibilities will include writing orders for diagnostic testing, prescribing medications, consulting with other services/sections, and utilizing computerized/electronic medical records. Major function of the position includes Health Risk Assessment, goal setting for prevention, and chronic diseases management. A major focus is on preventive medicine with focus on the achievement of positive outcomes for patients, improve coordination of care, decrease clinic waits or delays, and appropriate use of resources. Document all medical information in an electronic medical record. Perform medication reconciliation. Instructing and educating Residents/Fellows.
