Cardiologist This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until July 13th, 2026. The initial cut-off date for referral of eligible applications will be May 19th, 2026, with subsequent cut-off dates every 2 weeks. Eligible applications received after that date will be accepted on an ongoing basis and qualified candidates will be considered as vacancies become available. Recruitment Incentive (Sign-on Bonus): Authorized Work Schedule: 8:00am to 4:30pm, Monday through Friday Pay: Competitive salary, annual performance bonus, regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 50-55 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year and possible 5 day paid absence for CME) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory CME: Possible $1,000 per year reimbursement (must be full-time with board certification) Malpractice: Free liability protection with tail coverage provided Contract: No Physician Employment Contract and no significant restriction on moonlighting The primary duties for this cardiologist will be those that relate to the full scope of interventional cardiology procedures including but not limited to: percutaneous coronary intervention, IVUS, FFR, diagnostic cardiac catheterization, temporary pacemaker placement, pericardiocentesis, placement of cardiac assist devices such as Impella, IABP. The incumbent will also participate in general cardiology care which includes but are not limited to: direct patient care in the outpatient settings; provide diagnosis and treatment to adult patients presenting with cardiovascular conditions; interpret and report cardiology studies including ECG, Echo, Holter, and Stress/Treadmill ECG; perform minor procedures such as Transesophageal Echocardiogram and Elective Cardioversion per credentialing and privileging approvals. Full scope of Interventional Cardiology, not necessarily structural, however. Also, incumbent will be expected to participate in general Cardiology management of our Veteran population. This includes providing independent care delivery and specialty consultation for chronic and acute medical needs. The veteran population is like the general population with the addition of exposures that are unique to the Veteran population such as Agent Orange and other toxic exposures. A part of your responsibility is to write orders for diagnostic testing, prescribe medications, consult with other specialty services, and utilize computerized/electronic medical records. Major functions of the position include preoperative cardiovascular risk assessment, goal setting for prevention, and chronic diseases management. A major focus is on preventive medicine with focus on the achievement of positive outcomes for patients, improve coordination of care, decrease clinic waits or delays, and appropriate use of resources. Additional functions include clinical oversight and providing guidance to mid-level providers such as Nurse Practitioners or trainees such as Residents, Medical Students, and Fellows. The major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provide direct patient care to include, but are not limited to: history and physicals, medication management, evaluation of diagnostic tests and treatment planning, clinical reminder, and consult completion as applicable. Proficient in Tele-Health to home visits (VA Video Connect). Proficient in interpretation and reporting of Electrocardiograms (ECGs) Proficient in interpretation and reporting of Echocardiograms (Echo) Proficient in interpretation and reporting of pharmacologic and exercise stress ECGs Proficient in interpretation and reporting of ambulatory EKG recordings Proficient in evaluation of Cardiac Implanted Electronic Device (such as pacemakers, ICDs, loop recorders) interrogation reports Additional proficiencies in performing, interpreting, and reporting Transesophageal Echocardiograms and performing elective Direct Current Cardioversions may be needed Proficient in the full scope of Interventional Cardiology such as diagnostic cardiac catheterization, PCI, IVUS, FFR, pericardiocentesis, temporary pacemaker placement, placement of temporary cardiac assist devices such as Impella, IABP. Cardiologists performing inpatient clinical duties are expected to remain proficient in providing inpatient/urgent/emergent consultative recommendations
