Description: The Nuclear Medicine Technologist utilizes imaging, computer, and other equipment as appropriate to produce and retain high-quality diagnostic images. These images must meet or exceed department, organization, and industry standards. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of human anatomy and physiology as well as image quality. Applies professional knowledge to prepare patients for procedures. Educates patients and responds to their questions or concerns. Ensures an age-appropriate approach to communication, safety needs, and patient education. Demonstrates principles of physical and functional growth and development. Understands patient positioning, imaging techniques, radiation safety, imaging equipment, infection control, and quality control techniques. Oversees and trains students providing patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training. Verifies the ordered exam and its appropriateness using assessment data and principles of growth and development. Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients. Positions the patient and equipment to achieve optimal images. Utilizes imaging, computer, and other equipment as appropriate to produce high-quality diagnostic images. Works with physicians to evaluate the images and determine if additional images are needed. Applies radiation safety techniques and devices to minimize radiation exposure to patients and staff. Educates patients and responds to their questions or concerns regarding procedures. Ensures an age-appropriate approach to communication, safety needs, patient education, and principles of physical and functional growth and development.
