Emergency Medical Services Director Provides strategic operational and clinical leadership for Maury Regional Health's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) across a multi-county service area. Responsible for overall performance regulatory compliance financial management and service line development including 911 response interfacility transport and Mobile Integrated Health (MIH) programs. Ensures delivery of high-quality timely emergency care while aligning EMS operations with system-wide goals and maintaining strong partnerships with internal leadership and external stakeholders. Key Job Responsibilities:
Provides overall leadership and direction for EMS operations including 911 response ALS/BLS transport and interfacility services across the health systems service area. Develops and executes strategic plans to support EMS growth regional coverage and alignment with Maury Regional Health system initiatives. Ensures compliance with all federal state and local regulations including Tennessee Department of Health EMS rules licensure requirements and NEMSIS reporting standards. Oversees clinical quality and patient care delivery in collaboration with the EMS Medical Director ensuring adherence to protocols and continuous quality improvement (QA/CQI) processes. Directs financial performance of the EMS service line including budgeting cost control revenue cycle oversight and identification of operational efficiencies. Leads workforce management efforts for approximately 130 staff including recruitment retention engagement performance management and leadership development of direct reports. Maintains operational readiness of all EMS assets including fleet equipment supplies and facilities ensuring safe and efficient service delivery. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with county governments emergency management agencies healthcare partners and community stakeholders. Oversees training and education programs to ensure staff competency regulatory compliance and alignment with organizational and clinical priorities. Develops monitors and reports key performance indicators including response times clinical outcomes employee engagement and financial metrics to executive leadership.
Education:
Bachelors degree in EMS Healthcare Administration Business Administration or related field required Masters degree (MBA MHA or related field) preferred
Licensure & Certifications:
Current Tennessee licensure as Paramedic preferred (EMT or AEMT with appropriate leadership experience considered) National Registry certification preferred Valid Tennessee drivers license with acceptable driving record Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent required NIMS/ICS certifications (IS-100 200 700 800) required or obtained within established timeframe
Experience:
Minimum of 7-10 years of EMS experience required Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience required Experience with multi-site or regional EMS operations preferred Experience with budgeting regulatory compliance and quality improvement required
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of EMS operations clinical protocols and regulatory requirements Strong leadership organizational and decision-making skills Ability to manage complex operations across multiple locations Financial and analytical skills with ability to interpret operational data Effective communication and relationship-building skills with internal and external stakeholders
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting standing and walking Ability to travel between locations within the service area Ability to participate in field activities as needed
Work Environment:
Combination of office field and clinical environments Subject to on-call responsibilities and response to operational or emergency situations
