General Purpose of Job:Under direction of a Physician or Registered Nurse is responsible for assisting surgeons, anesthetists, and nurses in the care of patients in the Operating Room.Essential Duties:This job description is intended to cover the minimum essential duties assigned on a regular basis. Associates may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned by their leader. Leadership has the right to alter or modify the duties of the position.Maintain knowledge and practice of aseptic technique.Assists the circulating nurse in the preparation of surgical procedures and during room turnovers between procedures.Prepares sterilefield for surgical procedures, ensuring proper instruments and suppliesare available for use.During thesurgical procedure:
Anticipation ofneeds for surgeon and passing of instruments and supplies;Functions asassistant, when needed;Obtains counts with circulating nurse;Cares forspecimens according to procedure;Maintains proper care of instruments and supplies when procedure is finished.
Maintainsequipment, supplies and environmental safety.Maintainsknowledge of current trends in surgical procedures and instrumentation.Maintainsstandards by participating in in-services, committees, etc.Functions as preceptor to new associates and students.
Job RequirementsGeneral Requirements
Certified Surgical Tech Current BLS certificationWork Experience
Previous surgical tech experience preferredEducation
High School Diploma or GED Formal Aseptic Technique TrainingSpecialized Knowledge and Skills
Demonstrate computer skills including word processing, databases and e-mail.
