Direct all educational activities of the Veterinary Nursing Program; develop and maintain a functional curriculum aligned with AVMA standards. Evaluate course content, review new texts, and collaborate with administration on program design and implementation. Coordinate educational workshops and in-services for didactic and clinical faculty. Maintain all AVMA records, prepare annual reports, and lead self-study reports for accreditation. Plan and conduct department staff meetings and semiannual Advisory Board meetings. Monitor department expenditures and maintain budget compliance; order supplies and maintain equipment as needed.
Student Success & Instruction:
Monitor student success rates and implement plans to reduce withdrawals; maintain an 80% student success rate for all classes taught. Evaluate student performance and make necessary provisions to meet individual learning needs. Maintain student grades per established policies; prepare final grades at the end of each sequence. Perform functions of a Veterinary Nursing instructor; monitor lab competencies and confirm skill levels on standardized checklists.
Faculty & Clinical Site Management:
Supervise veterinary nursing staff and faculty; evaluate performance and prepare teaching assignments. Establish and implement veterinary nursing department goals. Visit clinical sites regularly to evaluate student clinical performance and progress; coordinate with site supervisors to ensure effective clinical education.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an AVMA-accredited College of Veterinary Medicine recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or CHEA. Current DVM license in good standing as required by local, state, or federal laws to work in the veterinary field in Texas. Minimum 3 years of practical experience in the veterinary field and/or 3 years of teaching experience in the veterinary field. Leadership or supervisory experience preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and other computer applications.
Compensation & Benefits:
Competitive Pay: $110,000-135,000 per year. Sign-On Bonus: $5,000 payable after 90 days of employment. Relocation Assistance: Available for qualified candidates. A Few Things to Know:
You will work in a classroom, lab, and office environment with exposure to biohazardous materials including blood, feces, saliva, and urine. Outdoor exposure to large animal enclosures may be required. Role requires the ability to demonstrate lifting and restraint techniques required of veterinary nursing practice.
