Checks the prescriptions given by medical providers for medication, dosage, patient information, directions for use, and refills. Compounds and/or prepares prescribed medicine for dispensing. Ensures the Pharmacist on duty has reviewed for final check prior to dispensing to the patient. Stores and preserves vaccines, serums, insulin, and other drugs appropriately to prevent spoilage. Safely prepares medical and surgical products as prescribed for dispensing. Refers patients to pharmacists on duty for advice and guidance on the proper use of prescribed and over-the-counter medications and medical supplies unless properly and trained and certified to do so; Interprets and fills medical providers prescriptions for customers. Verifies all patient information before filling a prescription, especially when it comes to Controlled Substances. Makes entry of prescriptions into the pharmacy database. Make pharmacists on duty aware of the need to contact medical providers and benefits providers as necessary to process a prescription. Complete third-party insurance forms and other paperwork Sell non-prescription drugs, and related commercial products Assist with maintaining an adequate stock of prescription and over-the-counter medications, surgical supplies, and retail merchandise Make pharmacists on duty aware of overstock, out-of-date, or out-of-stock issues. Maintain professional standing by taking and satisfying training requirements and annually renewing state license. Remain up to date regarding changes in all Federal and State laws and regulatory changes. Other duties as assigned.

Requires skill in the effective use of personal computers and software applications. Ability to interact tactfully and courteously with clients, staff, supervisors, and agencies. Knowledge of community resources. Excellent organizational skills. Must be able to read and understand patient information and medical terminology.
Education and experience:
One to two (1–2) years of experience working as a pharmacy technician preferred. Completion of a pharmacy technician training program approved by a nationally recognized organization is required. Per Illinois regulations, 500 hours of documented work experience that includes on-the-job training may substitute for a formal training program. Must hold a current Illinois Pharmacy Technician license (or the appropriate state license for the work site) prior to hire. Certification as a pharmacy technician (e.g., PTCB or ExCPT) is required prior to the second license renewal, per Illinois state law (225 ILCS 85/9). Preference will be given to candidates who already hold certification. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.
Physical demands: Light physical activity performing non-strenuous daily activities of an administrative nature. Work schedule: Normal work hours for this position are Monday through Friday dayshift, unless otherwise specified by management staff.
