Provides prescribed care involving the application of an extensive body of specialized treatment techniques to patients in an inpatient care unit.
Essential Job Functions
Monitor condition of patients while being moved and reports any manifest change in condition to clinician or licensed nurse. Make specialized observations on the patient's condition during the course of rounds, records and reports observations to a physician or registered nurse. Take records of the patient's vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration rate and checks for pain level and reports data to registered nurse or provider. Make rounds on assigned patients, answers and responds to patients calls or requests, makes mechanical adjustments of bed. Perform some clerical work related to patient care as assigned, and other duties as assigned. Evaluate the condition of incoming emergency and trauma patients by observing for manifest indications of need for emergency care and escorts or transports them to examination booths; administers basic therapeutic measures where indicated such as applying pressure to stop bleeding; alerts a registered nurse of a physician in cases where immediate emergency treatment is required and assists a physician or registered nurse in examinations and treatments by aiding patients to disrobe and washing affected areas, draping, laying out and passing instruments and supplies and soothing or restraining patients. Assist patients with activities of daily living, i.e. serving meals, feeding, brushing teeth, dressing and undressing, bathing, eliminating, range of motion and ambulating. Transport patients on beds, stretchers or wheelchairs from one unit to another area or to operating rooms or to examining rooms as needed/assigned. Administer specialized treatment regimen of nursing care as directed by a physician or registered nurse. Chip into patients' comfort and well-being by changing linen, rearranging bedding, cleaning room, serving and removing meal trays, furnishing bedpans and urinals, and giving shampoos and back rubs. Assist physicians or licensed nurses in clinic examinations and treatments by positioning, holding, escorting and draping patients. Turn and re-positions bedridden patients alone or with assistance and take appropriate measures to prevent pressure sore. Assure a safe, clean, orderly and sanitary environment for patients by cleaning up minor spills, making beds, cribs and bassinets, maintaining wards, sleeping quarters and recreational areas. Collect specimens such as urine, feces, or sputum, and transports to the lab and blood bank. Pick up medications (except controlled substances) from pharmacy and deliver them to licensed nurses. Document on patient's medical record using the hospital medical system; performs some clerical work related to patient care as assigned, and other duties as assigned. Perform the general duties of a nursing attendant; ordering of supplies, picking up stock orders and restock; performs cycle count of inventory; restock clinical resuscitation carts using approved quality checklist. Ordering of specialty items from Supply Chain. Lead and/or participate in special projects (clinical or non-clinical) as directed. Participates in division/facility wide committees. RequirementsRequirements to Qualify. One (1) year of experience at the level of Nursing Attendant II. Experience at the level of Los Angeles County classification of Nursing Attendant II is defined as: Provides prescribed nursing care and limited technical services such as collecting and monitoring clinical data, performing basic medical procedures and treatments, operation of medical technology and equipment, and/or health information technology & communication. -AND- Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) issued by the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).* -AND- A current Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) issued by the American Heart Association.* PHYSICAL CLASS: IV - Arduous: This class involves frequent heavy lifting over 25 pounds, often combined with bending, twisting, or working above ground on irregular surfaces. It includes those positions that occasionally demand extraordinary physical activity such as those in Safety positions. Desirable qualifications: Additional credit will be awarded to applicants who possess additional experience at the level of Nursing Attendant II. Additional Information EXAMINATION CONTENT: This assessment type will evaluate the training, experience, desirable qualifications, and license/certificate you list on your application and supplemental questionnaire, and assign a score based on a standardized scoring system. This assessment is worth 100% of your total score. Candidates need to achieve a passing score of 70% or higher on the examination in order to be placed on the eligible register.
