Position: Speech Language Therapist for Taos Day School , Taos, NM 87571
Responsibilities To remediate speech articulation deficits in students that impede academic performance. To utilize therapeutic intervention to increase receptive and expressive language skills for students that are two standard deviations below the norm for their grade level. To evaluate students that may have hearing, speech, or language deficits based on information from the Student Assistance Team. To screen students that may have deficits in speech and language based on Student Assistance Team data or other referral methods. To evaluate students utilizing standardized measured testing instruments to determine if placement is warranted To meet with students in a therapeutic 1:1 setting or small group setting to provide suggestions for therapy services that can be carried into the home if warranted. To provide therapeutic services that will help the student with adaptations in the general education classroom. To draft relevant sections of the IEP for students with speech language impairments including: evaluation summaries/reports, present levels of performance, annual goals, related services, and quarterly progress reports. To attend IEP meetings and work with the IEP team to determine appropriate services and settings for speech-language impaired students. To keep legal framework of 60 days to complete evaluations from time Consent to Evaluate form is signed by parents/guardians. To conduct audio-metric screenings on special education students. To create a plan for exiting students that have received services for multiple years, where disability is not related to organic factors. Minimum Qualifications: • Current license as a Speech Language Therapist in the State of New Mexico. • Experience working with Native American student populations or in similar educational settings is preferred. • Knowledge of the unique needs of Taos Pueblo students and the local community. • Ability to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams. • Strong organizational, communication, and documentation skills. Work Schedule and Location: • 15-20 hours per week, scheduled during school hours (8:00 am - 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday), with specific hours coordinated post-award. • Onsite at Taos Day School, 200 Rotten Tree Road, Taos, NM 87571. Additional Requirements: • Must provide all therapy materials and supplies. • Government will provide a computer and access after security clearance. • Must complete and maintain favorable background investigation as required for work with children.
