Job Summary Meet the needs of the Anesthesia Department through operation, processing, cleaning, ordering, storing and testing supplies and equipment and medication maintenance. Provides assistance to the anesthesia provider as requested.
Responsibilities Properly test, clean and maintain all equipment that passes through the department, including both routine and emergent equipment. Perform minor maintenance and repair on equipment, and alert Clinical Engineering of concerns related to equipment. Ensure proper disposal of one time use items. Switch out anesthesia machine from location to location as needed, including confirming anesthesia equipment is available, confirming power source is available and connected, confirming proper gas supply is available and connected, confirming network cabling is reconnected. Understand aseptic technique. Ensure proper disposal of hazardous materials/items and ensure proper cleaning of contaminated equipment. Utilize proper safety precautions and adhere to polices of PPE. Acquire IV pumps. Properly test function of IV pumps. Set up IV fluids, fluid warmers and pressure transducers. Set up supplies for sterile anesthesia field. Order supplies, non-controlled medications and materials for the department. Maintain par levels of supplies, medication and materials. Upon delivery to the department, unbox and place items in assigned location within the department. Check expiration dates on medication and disposable supplies. Pick up and deliver departmental mail. Assist anesthesia providers in transporting equipment and patients. Asist anesthesia provider with connection of proper monitoring equipment for patients. Be readily available and assist anesthesia provider with insertion of lines, peripheral blocks and intubation as needed. Perform daily cleaning of assigned anesthesia machine. Check in blood for surgeries as required, pick up blood and blood products from the blood bank. Perform daily temperature checks on blood refrigerator as assigned. Perform daily temperature check on medication refrigerators. Anticipate anesthesia equipment requirements for scheduled and emergent procedures.
Basic understanding and recognition of medication names used within the anesthesia department- required for obtaining medications routinely and emergently when asked by anesthesia provider. Set up specialty areas outside the OR with appropriate equipment, supplies and non-controlled medications. Provide anesthesia support during emergent situations. Ensure Malignant Hyperthermia supplies are available in assigned location. Perform required anesthesia machine safe measures for malignant hyperthermia patients as directed by anesthesia provider. Assist the anesthesia department within scope of practice and perform core duties as needed. Partner with new hires and role model scope of practice and assist with training. Maintain EMR access and understand perioperative tracking board to anticipate the needs of anesthesia provider, set up proper equipment for the next procedure, etc. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Patient Group Knowledge (Only applies to positions with direct patient contact) The employee must possess/obtain (by the end of the orientation period) and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide developmentally appropriate assessment, treatment or care as defined by the department's identified patient ages. Specifically the employee must be able to demonstrate competency in: 1) ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs; 2) knowledge of growth and development; and 3) understanding of the range of treatment needed by the patients. Competency Statement Must demonstrate competency through an initial orientation and ongoing competency validation to independently perform tasks and additional duties as specified in the job description and the unit/department specific competency checklist. Perform work in alignment with the overall mission and strategic plan of the organization. 8. Follow organizational and departmental policies and procedures, as applicable. 9. Perform related duties as assigned. Education • High School Diploma or GED (Required) • Associate's Degree Credentials • Basic Cardiac Life Support (Required) Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire.
