Job Description The Infection Preventionist (IP) is responsible for the surveillance, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of healthcare-associated infections (HAI). This role includes monitoring reportable conditions, educating employees about infection prevention, and developing health system policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection prevention and control standards are met. The IP must align with Joint Commission, OSHA, CMS, CDC, FDA, and other regulations while ensuring timely reporting of infection prevention measures and outcomes. ResponsibilitiesSupport the development, implementation, maintenance, and updating of the Infection Prevention and Control Plan and Program. Collect, trend, prepare, and maintain all infection control data and statistical reports; provide reports to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) and regulatory agencies. Facilitate and promote education and training of all staff, patients, families, and communities regarding infection prevention and control. Serve as an expert for Infection Prevention and Control and maintain strong relationships with public health entities for updated information dissemination. Conduct research to determine appropriate actions based on collected data and evidence-based practices. Participate as a co-chair in the infection prevention and control committee, fostering positive teamwork with stakeholders. Required Experience / Certifications / LicensureBachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field (Nursing, Public Health, Epidemiology, Microbiology, etc.) is required. Master's in a healthcare-related field is preferred. Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is required. Minimum of 3 years of acute care/infection control experience and/or experience in data collection and performance improvement/risk management. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is current.
