An entry-level networking role responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of the University network infrastructure. This position will monitor network performance, manage hardware and software, and troubleshoot network-related issues. Tasks include installing switches, access points, and servers, and performing upgrades, maintenance and repairs. Will often work with the Help Desk to resolve user network-related issues and serve as a front facing contact for the networking team.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Support day-to-day operations of the campus network to ensure performance, stability and reliability.
Responsible for ongoing maintenance and operation of IDF network closets and racks.
Monitor the network using available tools and respond to critical alerts/down equipment.
Serve as a resource to the Help Desk as it pertains to general network connectivity, LAN implementations and troubleshooting.
Act as a lead for the physical installation and replacement network hardware during times of failure and scheduled upgrades.
Maintain appropriate spare parts inventory including switches, APs, cables, SFPs, etc.
Establish and maintain vendor relationships pertaining to all facets of network technology.
Assist with annual renewal of maintenance for all network related hardware and software.
Build and maintain network reports that track system functions, utilization and generate alerts where necessary.
Create and maintain network diagrams pertaining to the campus infrastructure to support future growth and projects.
Due to the importance of having university computer systems operational at all times, employees of the Office of Information Technology may need to be available during non-scheduled work time.
Additional responsibilities will be defined and assigned by supervisor.
