Veterinary Technician The Veterinary Technician at Coyne Veterinary Center in Crown Point plays a critical role in supporting veterinarians to provide exceptional medical care to animals. This position involves assisting with clinical procedures, monitoring patient health, and ensuring the overall welfare of animals under care. The technician will be responsible for preparing animals for examinations, collecting samples such as blood, and maintaining accurate medical records. Demonstrated experience in animal care and handling within a clinical or hospital setting. Proficiency in drawing blood and performing basic laboratory procedures. Strong understanding of animal anatomy, physiology, and behavior.
Preferred Qualifications:
Associate degree or certification in Veterinary Technology from an accredited program. Valid Veterinary Technician License or certification as required by state regulations. Experience working in a busy veterinary hospital or animal care facility. Knowledge of advanced veterinary medical equipment and diagnostic tools. Familiarity with electronic medical records and practice management software. Additional training or certification in animal behavior or welfare. Strong communication skills for client education and team collaboration.
Responsibilities:
Assist veterinarians during medical examinations and surgical procedures. Perform routine laboratory tests, including drawing blood and collecting other samples. Monitor and record vital signs and patient progress throughout treatment. Provide daily care and comfort to hospitalized animals, including feeding, grooming, and exercising. Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of medical instruments and treatment areas. Educate pet owners on animal care, behavior, and post-treatment instructions. Manage inventory of medical supplies and ensure proper storage of medications. Support animal welfare initiatives and ensure compliance with safety and health regulations.
Skills: The required skills such as animal husbandry, veterinary medicine, and animal welfare are essential for providing comprehensive care and ensuring the health and comfort of patients. Daily tasks involve applying knowledge of animal behavior to safely handle and calm animals during procedures. Proficiency in drawing blood and conducting laboratory tests supports accurate diagnosis and treatment planning. Skills in biology and animal care enable the technician to monitor patient conditions effectively and respond to changes promptly. Preferred skills like familiarity with medical software and advanced diagnostic tools enhance efficiency and improve communication within the veterinary team and with pet owners.
