Job Description Safety, Health and Fire Code Compliance:
Research and review current regulations, interpretations and requirements from various publications and organizations such as OSHA, NFPA, EPA, DNR. - Maintain, develop and implement training for staff and offenders regarding safety issues ranging from Bloodborne Pathogens to fire extinguisher training and chain saw safety.
Ensure proper documentation of all such training.
Attend training and seminars for updates to standards and regulations.
Maintain compliance in accordance with OSHA and other state and federal policies and standards.
Fill out permits and make determinations in areas such as confined space to determine needed levels of protection.
Claims, Litigation and Investigation:
File first report of injuries to appropriate departments for offender Workman's Compensation claims.
Answer questions that may arise from the claim administrators.
Schedule depositions between offender lawyers and claim administrators.
Retrieve medical records and applicable paperwork for Workman's Compensation litigation.
Record and summarize the OSHA 300 logs annually and post.
Act as liaison to agencies, such as the State Building codes and Fire Marshal's office, by communicating proposed work to be completed and submitting plans to these offices when and where necessary.
Investigate offender and staff injuries, arson and complaints within the institution.
Answer requests for information related to workplace safety.
I nspections: Conduct regular inspections of all areas and departments of the institution to ensure compliance with safety and health laws and regulations.
Provide a monthly report detailing findings of inspections noting deficiencies, problems or concerns for area supervisor to address and correct.
Receive feedback and track which items cited on the monthly inspections have been abated.
Coordinate annual inspections with contractors and the State Fire Marshal.
Provide Plan of Correction to the Fire Marshal annually.
Coordinate proactive measure tours, such as OSHA, for consultation.
Conduct fire drills and document on a quarterly basis.
Testing/Training:
Determine appropriateness of safety and emergency equipment in use at the institution.
Order, inspect, replace and remove from service equipment based on current regulatory requirements.
Operate testing equipment in certain applications and be able to calibrate and document such equipment to ensure accuracy.
Train offender/staff on safety related issues and institutional requirements.

Minimum Qualification Requirements Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in occupational and environmental health, engineering or human resources management; OR four years of full-time professional work experience in human resources/safety administration (i.e. development and implementation of a safety program, accident prevention, loss control, facility inspection, employee training); OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience totaling four years.
