Pediatric Pathology Opportunity In Coastal Virginia Discover an opportunity to join a pediatric-focused pathology program in Coastal Virginia. Children's Specialty Group (CSG), in partnership with Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) and Old Dominion University, is seeking a board-certified AP/CP Pathologist to join an established and collaborative team. This position is based within a children's hospital and will focus primarily on pediatric pathology. The team is open to both fellowship-trained pediatric pathologists and general pathologists with interest or experience in pediatric cases. Opportunity Highlights:
Private practice model with a clear path to partnership and long-term stability Pediatric-focused case mix within a leading children's hospital, with flexibility based on background and experience Join a collegial team of 3 pathologists with strong collaboration and shared case coverage Practice includes a mix of surgical and clinical pathology, rotated among the group based on schedule and individual preferences Approximately 3,000 surgical specimens annually, including oncology cases, GI biopsies, and bone marrow work Balanced call structure (approximately 1:4), with shared responsibilities across the team Team-based environment with no solo coverage and consistent support in both surgical and clinical settings Flexible scheduling model designed to adapt to physician needs and promote long-term sustainability Strong focus on quality care and manageable workload, not high-volume production expectations
What to Expect:
Rotation between surgical pathology and clinical responsibilities, with flexibility built into the schedule Exposure to a broad range of pediatric cases within a leading free-standing children's hospital in Virginia Collaborative coverage model where pathologists support one another and share responsibilities Opportunity to build a long-term role with greater control over schedule and day-to-day practice
Ideal for:
Mid- to late-career pathologists seeking improved work-life balance Early-career physicians looking for a stable, supportive environment to grow
Why This Opportunity Stands Out:
True lifestyle-focused position within pathology, offering greater control over schedule and workload compared to larger academic or high-volume private groups Ability to practice pediatric-focused pathology without being siloed or isolated Supportive, team-oriented environment with shared coverage and flexibility Private practice structure with partnership and equity potential, offering long-term stability and upside
Community Highlights – Coastal Virginia:
Hampton Roads is a vibrant coastal region with over 1.7 million residents, offering access to Virginia Beach, Norfolk, and the Chesapeake Bay. Waterfront living with easy access to beaches and outdoor recreation Strong schools and family-friendly communities Growing dining, arts, and cultural scene Lower cost of living compared to major coastal metros Easy access to major East Coast cities and both Virginia and North Carolina beaches
