Director of Business Services Purpose: The Nutrition Services Manager provides leadership and operational oversight of the district's food service program, ensuring the delivery of safe, nutritious, and high-quality meals that meet federal, state, and local requirements while supporting student satisfaction and participation. This position leads menu and recipe development, approves food and supply items based on USDA CN labeling and nutritional requirements, and oversees labor scheduling, budgeting, purchasing, and operational performance across all nutrition services operations. The Manager supervises the Nutrition Services Specialist, Nutrition Services Coordinator, and more than 55 staff across 11 kitchens. Essential Functions: Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for all district nutrition services operations, including supervision of the Nutrition Services Specialist, coordinator, kitchen leads, Head Cook, and support staff, while overseeing hiring, onboarding, scheduling, and employee evaluations to ensure effective staffing and operational consistency across all sites. Develop and maintain districtwide menus and standardized recipes that meet USDA nutrition standards, CN labeling requirements, student acceptability goals, production feasibility, and district operational needs. Oversee nutrition services operational systems and software related to menu planning, inventory, purchasing, meal accountability, and reporting. Oversee labor scheduling practices, purchasing systems, inventory controls, and vendor relationships to support appropriate staffing levels, cost efficiency, waste reduction, and consistent product availability. Ensure consistent delivery of high-quality meals in compliance with USDA Child Nutrition Program requirements, HACCP, OSHA, local health regulations, administrative reviews, audits, wellness policy requirements, and all required reporting and operational standards. Maintain continuity of meal service operations during staffing shortages, emergency situations, inclement weather, or other operational disruptions. Develop and oversee staff training programs, including required annual state and district training, to ensure consistent implementation of menus, recipes, procedures, food safety standards, regulatory requirements, and customer service expectations. Monitor and analyze meal participation, labor costs, food costs, supply expenses, inventory usage, and other key performance indicators to support financial accountability, operational efficiency, and program sustainability. Conduct site visits, operational reviews, and program monitoring to support consistency, accountability, and continuous improvement across all district nutrition services operations. Coordinate district special events, Fine Dining experiences, student dining etiquette programs, and catering services when operationally feasible and not interfering with core meal service operations. Promote positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community partners to support participation, customer satisfaction, and program engagement. Dependability: Regular reliable attendance, follows direction, and solicits feedback. Professional Qualifications:
Associates Degree preferably in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutrition Science, Culinary Arts, Food Service Management, or related field along with 5+ years of progressive experience in large-scale food service operations, preferably in K 12 school nutrition programs. ServSafe Manager Certification or equivalent food safety certification (required). Demonstrated experience managing multi-site operations and large teams (40+ employees preferred). Understanding of HACCP-based food safety systems and Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards. Working knowledge of school nutrition programs and regulatory requirements (e.g., United States Department of Agriculture guidelines). Proven ability to collaborate with district leadership, school administrators, and external partners. Must be willing to be flexible and do additional related jobs as assigned. Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:
Requires prolonged sitting or standing. Must work in sometimes noisy or crowded environments. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work Environment:
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 50% walking, and 40% standing.
