Requirements
Graduate of approved Physical Therapy Assistant program with an Associate's degree. Current Pennsylvania certification for physical therapist assistant.
Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification through the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America.
U.S. state valid driver's license and minimum age of twenty-one (21) years old. Must be capable of attaining approved Melmark driver status.
A minimum of two (2) years experience in a related field preferred. Physical Therapist Assistant- ICF Responsibilities
Effectively implements and documents physical therapy programs. Utilize customized special equipment for positioning, exercise, developmental motor programs, ambulation and functional lifetime activities. Acts as an assistant to the physical therapist in complex procedures and evaluations. Assists the physical therapist in gathering, organizing and reporting assessment data. Other duties assigned and needed for efficient functioning in the program and residential areas. The physical therapist may ask the physical therapist assistant, if appropriately trained and knowledgeable, to assist in screenings, participate in program wide education, perform selected measurement procedures. Collaborate with individuals, physical therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to select appropriate assistive technology, such as manual and power wheelchairs, custom seating systems, and various adaptive aids. This includes gathering medical justification and ensuring insurance coverage requirements are met. Properly fit, adjust, and deliver equipment to the individual, providing comprehensive training to the patient and their caregivers on proper use, safety, maintenance, and troubleshooting. Maintain detailed records, document progress, and communicate findings and any necessary adjustments to the supervising physical therapist and other team members. Provides staff training to direct care staff, family members, or others on any specific physical therapy goals and objectives, or teaching plans. Act as a liaison between the individual, healthcare providers, and durable medical equipment (DME) suppliers to ensure a seamless process from assessment to delivery and follow-up. Ensure all activities adhere to state licensure laws, the APTA's code of ethics for PTAs, and the RESNA Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics for ATPs Makes or obtains necessary adaptive equipment required for optimal participation in each individual's day or residential program. Manages equipment, schedules, workplace and therapy files. Assists in maintenance and repair of durable medical equipment in collaboration with the physical therapist, facilities team and vendors.
