Description: The Interventional Technologist I assists physicians with minimally invasive, image-guided procedures to diagnose, monitor, and treat simple to complex conditions, defects, and/or diseases without surgery. This position is intended for those who are gaining experience in interventional radiology or invasive cardiology or are experienced imaging professionals who wish to begin a career in this discipline. The role involves assisting providers in performing a variety of procedures, including cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology, angiography, device implantation, biopsies, thrombectomy, embolization, and pain management. The technologist utilizes highly specialized radiologic equipment and techniques to perform a diverse range of diagnostic and interventional procedures in accordance with established guidelines. They ensure procedures are performed safely and uphold the highest quality standards, maintaining a consistent focus on patient-centered care. The technologist prepares patients for procedures and provides comfort throughout the process. They act as a scrub tech while assisting providers during procedures, maintaining a strict sterile field and adhering to safety protocols. They respond to inquiries from patients and family members, providing clear information regarding diagnostic testing and expected result timelines. Collaboration with team members is essential to provide exceptional patient care. Post-testing quality reviews are conducted to confirm that all required elements are completed, documented, and align with departmental and accreditation standards. The technologist transfers images and data to the appropriate electronic health system, enters technical data and findings, and prepares studies for reporting by physicians. They perform quality control checks, cleaning, disinfecting, and equipment maintenance tasks per manufacturer instructions and regulatory guidelines. Participation in quality assurance, audits, and performance improvement tasks is expected. The technologist may provide on-call clinical coverage outside of regularly scheduled duty hours as assigned. They may also engage in teaching students and serve as a departmental preceptor to provide instruction and mentorship to new or less experienced team members.
