CSM Industrial, a growing leader in the Houston industrial construction market, is seeking an experienced Assistant Controller & HR Administrator to join its team. This pivotal role combines financial leadership with hands-on HR administration, supporting both the operational and strategic needs of the business. As the company scales under new ownership, the Assistant Controller & HR Administrator will play a key role in building robust financial infrastructure, ensuring accurate project accounting, and fostering a positive workplace environment. Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Internal Controls: Prepare and distribute monthly job cost reports, WIP schedules, and project-level P&L summaries; maintain the accuracy of the general ledger; monitor budget-to-actual variances; assist with monthly and year-end financial close; design and maintain internal controls over AP, AR, and payroll; support annual audit or review processes.Accounts Payable: Receive, verify, and match vendor invoices; enter invoices into ComputerEase; manage weekly payables cycle; validate subcontractor pay applications; ensure timely AP coordination to support project delivery.Project Billing & Accounts Receivable: Create and manage Schedules of Values; generate and distribute billing reports; submit billing and compliance documents; monitor outstanding receivables and escalate as needed; participate in contract reviews and project meetings.Job Costing & WIP Management: Maintain accurate job cost structures; prepare and review WIP schedules; coordinate with Project Managers on cost coding; reconcile project cost reports to the general ledger; support project closeout accounting.Payroll: Collect and process weekly timesheets; coordinate with field leadership on payroll changes; submit payroll and obtain approvals; track PTO; reconcile payroll registers to general ledger; implement electronic timesheet and HRIS systems as needed.HR - Recruiting & Onboarding: Manage employment applications; coordinate pre-employment checks; onboard new hires; maintain employee records and ensure compliance with federal and state requirements.Benefits Administration: Enroll new hires in benefits; respond to employee benefits questions; lead annual benefits review and plan selection; ensure ACA compliance and reporting.General Office Administration: Manage incoming mail; administer time-off requests; approve banking payments and ACH transactions; support day-to-day office operations.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a construction or project-based businessExperience with job costing, WIP reporting, AIA billing, and percentage-of-completion accountingProficiency in construction accounting software (ComputerEase strongly preferred; Acumatica, Sage 300 CRE, or Foundation also applicable)Working knowledge of HR functions, including recruiting, onboarding, payroll processing, and benefits administrationExperience preparing or supporting monthly financial close and reporting packagesStrong understanding of internal controls in AP, AR, and payroll environmentsHigh attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlinesExcellent written and verbal communication skills; able to present financial information to non-accounting managersProficient in Microsoft Office Suite, especially ExcelCPA or CPA candidate a plusExperience in industrial construction, heavy civil, or specialty contracting in the Gulf Coast market preferredFamiliarity with union or craft labor payroll practices preferredPrior experience as a sole-charge or assistant controller in a company under $50M in revenue preferredExperience supporting an ownership transition, acquisition integration, or rapid-growth scaling environment preferredExperience managing benefits enrollment cycles and carrier relationships preferredCompensation
$80,000 - $95,000 annually
