Staff Pharmacist The staff pharmacist is responsible for the accurate and safe dispensing of medications in compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations. This position ensures optimal patient care by providing clinical oversight, counseling patients on proper medication usage, and collaborating with healthcare providers. The pharmacist maintains the highest standards of professional practice during assigned shifts. This position provides intermittent supervision and guidance to pharmacy technicians, interns, and support staff during assigned shifts, and reports to the pharmacy manager. Essential Functions
Verifies the accuracy of dispensed prescriptions, including medication, dosage, and labeling, in compliance with legal and regulatory requirements Counsels patients on the proper use of medications, potential side effects, and drug interactions to ensure safe and effective therapy Reviews patient profiles for potential drug interactions, allergies, and contraindications, resolving any issues prior to dispensing Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers to optimize patient medication therapy and resolve prescription issues Oversees and directs the daily activities of the pharmacy team during assigned shifts, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to policies and procedures Maintains inventory control and controlled substance logs, ensuring compliance with DEA regulations during shifts where these tasks are assigned Administers immunizations and other clinical services as permitted by state law and company policy Responds to complex customer inquiries and resolves third-party insurance rejections and billing issues Adheres to all organizational policies, procedures, and professional standards, including maintaining patient confidentiality (HIPAA) Performs other related duties as assigned by management
Work-Related Experience
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a licensed pharmacist Experience working with diverse populations, including individuals with complex medical or behavioral health needs.
Physical Demands and Work Environment Mental:
Ability to maintain focus and accuracy while verifying prescriptions and reviewing patient information Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills to resolve prescription, insurance, and medication therapy issues Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment Effective communication skills for counseling patients and collaborating with healthcare providers and pharmacy staff Ability to follow regulations, policies and procedures maintaining confidentiality and professional standards
Physical:
Prolonged periods of standing throughout the shift Frequent walking within the pharmacy work area Ability to pull, push, lift, and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds Ability and willingness to perform tasks which include pushing, pulling, grasping, and lifting with or without reasonable accommodation Frequent use of hands and fingers for medication preparation, dispensing, computer entry, and operating pharmacy equipment
Working Conditions:
Retail or outpatient pharmacy setting with frequent interaction with patients, healthcare providers, staff, and vendors Fast-paced environment requiring continuous attention to workflow, accuracy, safety, and customer service Frequent use of pharmacy management systems, computers, and standard office equipment
Education, Certification, and Licensure
Education: Bachelor's Degree or Doctor of Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution or equivalent Licensure: Must possess and maintain an active, unrestricted Pharmacist license in the state of Indiana
