General Definition of Work
The plumber II, under general supervision, performs skill-based work with minimal decision-making discretion performing skilled plumbing work in the installation, maintenance and repair of district plumbing systems and components. Employee performs district-level work to carry out Board of Education policies under the direction of the maintenance & operations supervisor II.

Place of Work
The normal place of work is on the premises used by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Charlotte- Mecklenburg Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Essential Functions
Adhere to all state, federal, and local laws, policies, and proceduresMaintain all plumbing systems within CMS according to the state and local code enforcement requirements; collaborate with Mecklenburg County departments of code enforcement, health and environmental health and the NC department of environment and natural resourcesRespond to broken and clogged sewer and drain lines, inspect grease traps, sewer lift pumps and their stationsRespond to operational emergencies affecting cafeteria services, broken water heaters, frozen pipes, broken water lines and gas leaks; evaluate situation and take proper corrective actionReview blueprints, drawings and specifications for new construction and renovations to determine layout of plumbing systems, water supply networks, waste and drainage systems and required tools and equipmentMeasure, cut, thread, assemble and install pipe, tubing and gas linesPlan daily activities, complete paperwork, conduct truck inspection and stock inventory; evaluate a weekly open work order backlogManage P-card budget, purchase order requests and payments, vehicle mileage records, supply requests and vehicle repairMaintain and repair gas lines downstream of meterMaintain and repair mixing valves and irrigation systemsOperate specialized machinery and tools utilized in repair and maintenance of all plumbing and plumbing systemsPerform scheduled preventive maintenance on plumbing systems and fixturesAct as team leader by training, coaching and counseling and scheduling hours of employees; provide input regarding performance evaluations and promotionsSafely operate a district fleet vehicle to travel to assigned job sites, ensuring compliance with all traffic laws and company driving policiesMaintain the vehicle in clean, orderly, and serviceable condition, promptly reporting any maintenance needs, damage, or safety concernsPerform related work as assigned or required

Education and Experience

Mecklenburg County Journeyman's plumber certification or State of North Carolina plumbing license or plumbing technical license required State of NC fire sprinkler license M-1 desirable and/or commercial driver's license (CDL) desirable Possess and maintain a valid driver's license and ability to provide own transportation to/from work Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Work requires medium/heavy exertion of 10-25 pounds frequently, and up to 60 pounds occasionally. Prolonged standing, frequent lifting, carry, push, pull, or move objects Frequent walking, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities.
