ELA Classroom Teacher Grade 3rd - 4th
Position Summary
The English Language Arts Teacher for grades 3 and 4 is responsible for providing engaging, rigorous, and developmentally appropriate instruction in reading, writing, grammar, and oral communication rooted in a Catholic worldview. The teacher cultivates a classroom environment where students grow as thoughtful readers, expressive writers, and confident communicators while integrating Gospel values and the mission of the school.
Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
Plan and deliver daily ELA lessons aligned with school standards, curriculum maps, and Catholic educational philosophy.Teach foundational literacy skills, including phonics review, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension strategies, and literary analysis.Guide students in the writing process (prewriting, drafting, revising, editing, publishing) across multiple genres.Integrate grammar, usage, spelling, and handwriting instruction into meaningful literacy experiences.Use high-quality literature and informational texts to build knowledge, critical thinking, and a love for reading.Differentiate instruction to support diverse learners remediation, enrichment, and accommodations.Assess student progress using formative and summative tools and provide timely, constructive feedback.
Classroom Environment
Create a welcoming and orderly classroom rooted in Catholic virtues and character formation.Establish routines and expectations that promote respect, responsibility, and a growth mindset.Support student independence, collaboration, and active engagement through meaningful ELA centers, discussions, and activities.Foster curiosity, creativity, and joy in reading and writing.
Faith & Mission Integration
Support and model the mission and values of the Catholic Church and the school.Integrate virtues, prayer, and Catholic identity into the classroom community.Witness to the faith through personal conduct, professionalism, and relationships with students and families.
Professional Responsibilities
Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen vertical alignment of the school's literacy program.Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding classroom activities and student progress.Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and all required trainings.Maintain accurate records for grades, attendance, and progress monitoring.Use school technology platforms effectively (gradebook, educational apps, assessment tools).
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; degree in Elementary Education, English, or Literacy preferred.Valid teaching certification (or willingness/ability to obtain certification).Experience teaching elementary-aged students preferred.Strong understanding of literacy pedagogy, reading development, and writing instruction.Commitment to the mission and teachings of the Catholic Church.Excellent communication, organization, and relationship-building skills.
