Diverse and collaborative working environment Affordable and comprehensive benefits package Location: Johns Hopkins Hospital, Baltimore, MD -Surgical Pathology Lab Full Time/Day Shift:Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm Position Summary: Receives surgical pathology specimens, verifies proper patient identification on specimens, requisition and associated documentation.
Reviews documentation to ensure for adequate and accurate information.
Enters patient and specimen information into the Pathology database and/or assigned LIS, and generates a unique accession number, for the specimen/requisition labels, and tissue cassettes.
Assigns each specimen to the correct prosector and Attending Pathologist.
Is responsible for ensuring each specimen is given to the correct prosector in a timely manner.
Receives stat calls from the operating rooms for intraoperative consults and alerts house and support staff.
Creates intraoperative consult report templates ready for completion.
Assists house and support staff to correctly fill out requests for special studies.
Investigates, corrects, and documents discrepant/problem specimens to ensure the highest quality and patient safety as described in departmental procedures.
Required to interact with house and support staff, attending pathologists, physicians/surgeons and other service users as deemed necessary.
May be required to perform other clerical support duties as required. Minimum Qualifications:Education:
High School diploma required with coursework emphasis on biological science.
Successful completion of a Medical Terminology Training course is required; completion of a college-level Medical Terminology course is preferred. Equivalent of 6 3 months surgical pathology accessioning experience may be substituted for the medical terminology course.
Successful completion of a Johns Hopkins interpersonal communication training and telephone etiquette training or customer service training is required within 90 days of hire. Work Experience:
One year in a patient care related/medical data entry or specimen accessioning position.
Surgical pathology specimen accessioning is preferred. ***Authorization to Work in the United States: Applicants who require sponsorship now or in the future will not be considered for this position. Salary Range: Minimum 18.09/hour - Maximum 29.87/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount, salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls, before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
