Providing treatment for patients with general psychiatric disorders in a variety of treatment settings, including tele-mental health. Serving as subject matter expert in support of the behavioral health interdisciplinary team with responsibilities of providing clinical education, coordinating consults and triaging specialty clinic referrals. Collaborating with approved fee-based community mental health inpatient programs to assist/coordinate discharge planning, medication, and follow-up appointments, as well as, coordinating with ambulatory care services, as appropriate. Developing and implementing treatment plans for a range of mental illnesses such as anxiety, depression, personality, and behavioral disorders, phobias, post-traumatic stress, and more. Monitoring patients' progress and liaising with other healthcare professionals to adjust treatment plans as required. Facilitating group and one-on-one counseling sessions. Counseling and educating patients, families, communities, staff and others regarding mental health care. Documenting patient care in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). Maintaining clinical and administrative records as required. Being prepared to sign a collaborative practice agreement with clinic Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, and/or Physician Assistant providing mental health services. Promoting continuity and quality of care through an ongoing relationship with the veteran enrollee. Providing smooth and timely flow of patients in accordance with the VA access standards and triage protocol. Complying with all federal, state, local, Joint Commission, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Veteran Affairs, Subcontractor safety and operational regulations, directives and standards. Ensuring all patient information on encounter forms is complete and accurate. Maintaining confidentiality of all information and supporting patients’ privacy, rights, and safety. Acting as a liaison for the VAMC. Performing other work-related duties as assigned.
Required skills include:
An active, full and unrestricted medical license in the state of Mississippi. Board-certified or Board-eligible by the ABPN or AOBPN in Psychiatry. Current and unrestricted DEA. Retain current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/ Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) or the Military Training Network (MTN). Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques in accordance with the community and VA standards of practice. Knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, including desired effects, side effects, complications, and patient usage considerations. Knowledge of the basic concepts of customer service technique related to age-specific population. Effective verbal and written communication skills in the English language along with proper telephone etiquette. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Software and computer maneuverability including experience with electronic medical records systems.
Required education includes:
Possess a Doctorate Degree in Medicine from an accredited college approved by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association, a Doctorate degree in Osteopathy from a college accredited by the American Osteopathic Association, or permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). Successful completion of an accredited residency program in general psychiatry.
Working conditions/physical requirements include:
Moderate physical activity. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day. Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment. Required to respond to any medical emergency within the clinic, where a fast walk or jog may be necessary to provide assistance.
