Essential Functions
Medication dispensing: Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing prescription medications accurately and efficiently. Retrieve, count, pour, label, and package medications according to prescription orders and established procedures. Prescription processing: Receive and interpret prescription orders from patients, prescribers, and electronic prescribing systems. Verify patient information, medication details, and insurance coverage to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements. Medication inventory: Maintain pharmacy inventory by stocking shelves, monitoring stock levels, and rotating medications to ensure freshness and compliance with expiration dates. Assist with inventory management tasks, such as ordering, receiving, and storing medications and supplies. Customer service: Provide friendly and courteous customer service to patients and healthcare professionals. Answer phone calls, greet customers, and respond to inquiries about medications, prescription refills, and pharmacy services. Data entry: Accurately enter prescription and patient information into computerized pharmacy systems. Process insurance claims, adjudicate prescription orders, and update patient profiles with relevant information as needed. Medication compounding: Prepare compounded medications and specialty formulations under the supervision of a pharmacist. Follow compounding guidelines and procedures to ensure accuracy, safety, and compliance with regulatory standards. Quality assurance: Perform quality assurance checks on dispensed medications to verify accuracy, completeness, and adherence to quality standards. Report any discrepancies or issues to the pharmacist for resolution. Regulatory compliance: Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations governing pharmacy practice, including HIPAA privacy standards, pharmacy laws, and controlled substance regulations. Maintain confidentiality of patient information and medication records.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Proficiency in computer skills, including data entry and navigation of pharmacy software systems. Familiarity with pharmacy terminology, medication names, and dosage forms. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and interact professionally with patients, healthcare providers, and colleagues.
Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required. California pharmacy technician license
