Perform comprehensive postpartum and newborn assessments, monitoring changes in condition and responding promptly to clinical needs. Coordinate individualized care plans with physicians, midwives, lactation consultants, and interdisciplinary team members to support safe recovery and infant well-being. Provide patient and family education on postpartum healing, newborn feeding, safety practices, and discharge preparation. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, medications, and patient responses in the electronic health record. Support and promote breastfeeding by assisting with positioning, latch, and early feeding guidance in collaboration with lactation services. Ensure adherence to infection-prevention, safety, and regulatory standards, contributing to a secure and supportive unit environment. Licenses and Certifications Required:
Current or temporary RN license in North Dakota or compact RN licensure. BLS certification required within orientation period. Specialty certification in area of practice is desirable. Educational Requirements:
RN program as evidenced by licensure. Official diploma or transcript from the school/university from where Degree was received. Experience Requirements:
Hospital experience is preferred, but not required. Special Skills or Training Requirements:
As required by specific units.
Physical Requirements: The RN, Postpartum is frequently required to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout patient care areas for extended periods. The role involves assisting with patient mobility, supporting safe handling of newborns, and lifting or repositioning postpartum patients with the aid of proper equipment and team assistance. Adequate vision, hearing, manual dexterity, and communication abilities are essential for monitoring patients, administering medications, and responding effectively in a clinical setting. Environmental Requirements: This position works in an inpatient postpartum and newborn care environment with routine exposure to infectious diseases, bodily fluids, and common clinical cleaning agents. The role involves regular interaction with medical equipment, alarms, and a moderate-to-fast workflow that may require rapid prioritization. Adherence to PPE use, hand hygiene, and all Trinity Health safety and infection-control protocols is required to maintain a safe environment for patients, families, and staff.
