A degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Program
Licensed as a Physical Therapist in North Carolina
Comfortable using email and interacting with Internet applications
Knowledge of practice management and word processing software
Current CPR Certification
Excellent documentation and communication skills Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Practice in functional, prevocational, vocational, and homemaking skills, and activities of daily living
Consult with patients to learn about their physical condition and symptoms and develop a treatment plan
Teach patients how to properly use exercise techniques
Participation in sensorimotor, educational, recreational, and social activities designed to help patients of handicapped persons develop or regain physical or mental functioning or adjust to handicaps
Consult with rehabilitation team to select activity program consistent with needs and capabilities of individual and to coordinate physical therapy with other therapeutic activities
Select constructive activities suited to individual's physical capacity, intelligence level, and interest to upgrade individual to maximum independence, assist in restoration of functions, and aid in adjustment to disability
Provide stimulation or massage to affected area
Teach patient skills and techniques required for participation in activities and evaluate patient progress
Design and construct special equipment for patients and suggest adaptation of patients work-living environment
Plan, organize, and conduct physical therapy programs in hospital, institutional, or community settings to help rehabilitate those impaired because of illness, injury, or psychological or developmental problems
Test and evaluate patient's physical and mental abilities and analyze medical data to determine realistic rehabilitation goals for patients
Select activities that will help individuals learn work and life-management skills within limits of their mental and physical capabilities
Evaluate patients progress and prepare reports that detail progress
Complete and maintain necessary records
Train caregivers how to provide for the needs of a patient during and after therapy
Recommend changes in patients work or living environments, consistent with their needs and capabilities
Plan and implement programs and social activities to help patients learn work and school skills and adjust to handicaps
Design and create, or requisition, special supplies, and equipment, such as splints, braces, and computer-aided adaptive equipment
Help patients improve decision making, abstract reasoning, memory, sequencing, coordination, and perceptual skills using computer programs
Lay out materials such as puzzles, scissors and eating utensils for use in therapy, and clean/ repair tool after therapy session Other Responsibilities:
May conduct training programs or participate in training medical and nursing students and other workers in physical therapy techniques and objectives
Develop and participate in health promotion programs, group activities, or discussions to promote client health, facilitate social adjustment, alleviate stress, and prevent physical or mental disability
Conduct research in physical therapy
Advise on health risks in the workplace and home and on health-related transition to retirement
Plan program involving activities, such as manual arts and crafts
Provide patient with assistance in locating and holding jobs
Provide training and supervision in therapy techniques and objectives for students and nurses and other medical staff
Performs all other tasks and projects assigned by the Director of Therapy
