Assist surgical teams by preparing and monitoring instruments and equipment, following established sterilization and decontamination protocols. Adapt work priorities based on department activity and collaborate with leadership to optimize workflow. Support nursing staff by obtaining specialized supplies promptly to maintain quality patient care. Communicate effectively with healthcare providers to adjust surgical plans and instrument sets as needed. Promote teamwork by appropriately delegating tasks and maintaining a professional, calm environment. Patient Satisfaction & Safety
Work collaboratively with the operative team to ensure efficient patient flow and timely case preparation. Maintain a quiet, professional atmosphere and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with patients, visitors, and colleagues. Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and sterile field protocols, reporting any breaches immediately. Verify all medications and supplies passed to the sterile field using a double-check system. Maintain current knowledge of anatomy, surgical instruments, and equipment. Serve as a resource and mentor for peers, students, and new staff members. Engage in ongoing education and participate in departmental initiatives and in-services. Customer Service
Build strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals. Practice AIDET communication techniques to enhance patient and team interactions. Remain flexible with assignments and shifts to meet departmental needs.
Education and Certification Must hold current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing. Experience and Requirements Previous experience in surgical technology or perioperative nursing preferred. Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple requests efficiently is essential. This position is based in a regional healthcare facility serving the Midwest area, offering part-time hours with on-call responsibilities.
