Job Summary: Provide essential clinical support in the operating room, assisting anesthesia providers, surgeons, and team members with procedural tasks to ensure smooth surgical operations. Assist with preparation and management of surgical instruments and equipment, ensuring compliance with sterilization protocols and manufacturer standards. Adapt to fluctuating department activity by prioritizing tasks and managing time efficiently. Support nursing staff by obtaining specialized supplies promptly to maintain quality patient care. Collaborate with surgical teams to update preference cards and instrument sets as technology and procedures evolve. Promote teamwork by accepting and delegating tasks appropriately within the operative environment. Patient Satisfaction
Work closely with healthcare providers to coordinate intraoperative care plans and instrument setup. Maintain a calm, professional atmosphere, minimizing noise and disruptions in the surgical suite. Exemplify excellent interpersonal skills with patients, visitors, physicians, and colleagues. Contribute to efficient patient flow by adapting to changes in daily surgical schedules. Patient Safety
Perform thorough cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization of all surgical instruments and equipment. Prepare for surgical interventions tailored to individual patient needs and respond to unexpected changes during procedures. Adhere strictly to HIPAA regulations and institutional policies regarding sterile field maintenance and medication verification. Report any breaches in sterile technique or patient safety concerns promptly. Professional Development
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of anatomy, surgical instruments, and equipment. Serve as a resource and mentor for peers, students, and new staff through orientation and cross-training. Identify learning needs and collaborate with management to pursue professional growth opportunities. Participate in departmental goal setting and attend in-services on product and practice changes. Customer Service
Build strong relationships with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals. Ensure a professional, quiet environment conducive to patient care. Practice AIDET communication techniques to enhance patient and team interactions. Demonstrate flexibility with assignments, staffing, and shift changes while fostering a collaborative team atmosphere. Education and Certification
Current certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the appropriate state board.
Work Environment Full-time day shift position with a 40-hour workweek in a regional healthcare facility located in the Midwest United States.
