Supervise IV Operations: Oversee the day-to-day activities of the IV department, ensuring the safe and accurate compounding of IV medications for long-term care facilities. Help the management team develop and implement SOPs for the IV department.
Staff Management: Supervise and mentor a team of pharmacy technicians and IV specialists, providing training performance evaluations, and fostering a positive work environment. Provide disciplinary action, when necessary, process annual reviews, hiring and termination of employees. Schedule all technicians and pharmacists that work within the department.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all IV compounding processes comply with state and federal regulations, including USP
standards for sterile compounding and other relevant laws
Quality Assurance: Develop and implement policies and procedures for the IV department, ensuring continuous quality improvement and adherence to best practices in sterile compounding and medication safety.
Inventory and Procurement: Monitor and manage inventory levels of IV medications and supplies, ensuring adequate stock while minimizing waste.
Collaboration with Healthcare Providers: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to ensure proper medication therapy management, address concerns, and optimize patient outcomes. Answer any pump questions, clinical questions, or facility concerns.
Patient Safety: Review medication orders for appropriateness, dosage, and compatibility, and consult with healthcare professionals as necessary to prevent errors or adverse reactions.
Training and Development: Lead training initiatives for pharmacy staff on sterile compounding techniques, new equipment, or medication guidelines. Ensure all staff working in the department can perform sterile compounding and TPN mixing.
Reporting and Documentation: Maintain accurate records of all IV compounding activities, inventory, and staff training in compliance with pharmacy regulations
Qualifications
Long Term Care experience preferred
Licensed Pharmacist in the State of Georgia
Previous experience in Hospital and Retail pharmacy or other medical fields
Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong attention to detail
Strong organizational skills
Computer skills
Framework / ECM software knowledge a plus
