Inova Oakville Surgery Center Full-Time Sterile Processing Technician The Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) is responsible for the decontamination, sterilization, and preparation of surgical instruments and equipment to ensure a safe environment for patients and staff. This role is crucial in maintaining infection control standards and ensuring that all surgical instruments are available, functional, and sterile for each procedure. Duties and Responsibilities:
Decontamination and Cleaning: Disassemble, clean, and disinfect surgical instruments and equipment according to standard procedures and regulatory guidelines Inspection and Assembly: Carefully inspect instruments for damage or wear, assemble instrument trays, and ensure that all necessary tools are in proper working condition Sterilization: Operate and monitor sterilization equipment, including autoclaves and sterilizers, and adhere to sterilization protocols to maintain patient safety Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of sterilized instruments, track inventory levels, and restock as necessary to ensure all instruments are ready for upcoming surgeries Quality Assurance: Conduct routine tests on sterilization equipment to ensure efficacy and compliance with regulatory standards, documenting all processes and any maintenance needs
Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of one year in Sterile Processing required Certification: CRCST or CBSPD certification preferred (Certified Registered Central Service Technician by the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materiel Management (IAHCSMM) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician by the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) is preferred Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Adaptability: Ability to manage repetitive, short-cycle tasks efficiently Organizational Skills: Strong ability to prioritize and organize work effectively Technical Proficiency: Basic mechanical skills to operate large equipment, assemble/disassemble instruments, and familiarity with surgical instruments
