Provides vision and eye health screening exams at community locations, including schools, senior care centers, workplaces, medical practices, and health outreach events. Assists with patient flow, preliminary testing, screening documentation, and telemedicine-based workflows. Supports both mobile-van-based exams and non-ophthalmology-site screenings as part of the population health outreach team. Completes vision screening with an Eye chart or Allen cards, as appropriate. Uses Spot Screen and instills dilating drops as needed for vision exams.
Safely loads, delivers, sets up, tears down, and secures all screening and exam equipment used for community-based vision services. Monitors supply levels for population health screenings and exams, orders, and restocks materials, as needed. Ensures proper functioning of clinical equipment and coordinates recommended routine maintenance with Clinical Engineering.
Delivers pre-developed basic training on vision and eye-health screening procedures for MobilEyes volunteers, clinical partners, community organizations, and students. Provides instruction on proper use of screening and exam equipment during hands-on sessions, outreach events, and live or digital training.Collaborates with clinicians and Marketing/Outreach teams to ensure educational accuracy and quality.
Collects and documents operational, screening, and exam data from population health activities. Enters data accurately into designated databases and/or reporting tools. Supports process improvement and reporting needs through accurate and timely data submission.
Drives the Mobile Vision van safely to and from community locations while transporting clinical equipment and supplies. Maintains the van in coordination with Facilities, including scheduling routine maintenance and addressing issues as they arise. Complies with all University of Rochester Safer Driver Program policies, procedures, and training requirements.
Contacts patients to schedule in-clinic or mobile vision van exams based on screening results. Delivers basic screening results and provides information for follow-up care/appointments.

Minimum Education & Experience:
High School Diploma or equivalent and 1 year of closely related clinical experience or training in optometry, ophthalmology or related field required.
Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Ocular anatomy and physiology, basic tonometry, ophthalmic equipment maintenance, and simple repairs preferred.
Understands ocular injuries and urgent care preferred.
Possesses basic ocular pharmacology knowledge of drops andmedications used for eye examinations preferred.
Identifies the purpose of these commonly used medications, including proper administration, dosage, durations, common side effects, and is aware of the hospital’s policy on the shelf life of these medications preferred.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid driver’s license and good driving record in compliance with the University’s Safer Driver Program required.
CPR certification upon hire preferred.
Certification by the registry of the Joint Commission of Allied Health in Personnel Ophthalmology, or other nationally recognized professional certifying body upon hire preferred.
