Accountant
Location: Onsite - Montreal
Valsef Capital is seeking an Accountant to join one of its Montreal-based subsidiaries. The accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing financial statements, supporting month-end and year-end close processes, and ensuring compliance with applicable accounting standards and internal controls. The role works closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors to support financial reporting, budgeting, and operational decision-making.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare and post journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts.
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes.
- Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules.
- Perform account reconciliations and investigate variances.
- Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards and company policies.
- Support audits, reviews, and tax filings by providing documentation and analysis.
- Maintain internal controls and assist in improving accounting processes.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities.
- Perform variance analysis against budgets and prior periods.
- Support management with ad-hoc financial analysis and reporting.
- Manage and assist with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
- Monitor cash flow and working capital.
- Liaise with internal teams and external service providers as needed.
- Support the end-to-end payroll process in coordination with external payroll providers and internal HR teams.
- Review payroll calculations for accuracy, including salaries, bonuses, benefits, deductions, and statutory withholdings.
- Ensure payroll entries are properly recorded in the general ledger and reconciled on a timely basis.
- Assist with payroll-related remittances and filings, including source deductions and year-end reporting
- CPA designation preferred or in progress.
- 1 to 2 years of relevant experience.
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Knowledge of ASPE.
- Knowledge of NFPO standards.
