We’re looking for an ambitious journalist to join Fierce Biotech as a staff writer. This reporter will deliver sharp daily news and a steady stream of features that help readers understand what matters and what comes next. The role will cover the companies, science and deals shaping biotech.
The ideal candidate is eager to build sources, break news and dig into the why and how behind the day’s biggest developments. Our readers are sophisticated and deeply informed, and they come to Fierce for reporting, insight and perspective they can’t get anywhere else.
This person will work alongside an outstanding team: James Waldron, Darren Incorvaia, Ph.D., and Will Maddox.
We’re also adding a staff writer to Fierce Pharma Marketing. This reporter will cover the intersection of pharma, marketing, media, data and patient engagement, and how those forces are reshaping the industry. The role will work closely with Ben Adams.

Responsibilities
Write daily news stories and longer‑form features for Fierce Pharma Marketing or Fierce Biotech.
Develop a beat and build a strong network of sources.
Mine public records, court documents, regulatory filings, clinical trial data and company disclosures for original stories.
Brainstorm and deliver features that help Fierce engage and grow its audience.
Collaborate with editors and reporters across the newsroom on major stories and special projects.
Create or contribute to audio and video content, including podcasts and short‑form videos.
Actively engage on social media to promote stories, connect with sources and grow Fierce’s audience and voice.
Travel occasionally to cover major industry conferences.
Qualifications
Minimum one year of newsroom experience, preference for candidates who have covered pharma, healthcare, business or other complex, regulated sectors.
Degree in journalism or a related, writing‑intensive field.
Strong writing and reporting skills, with knowledge of AP style.
Demonstrated ability to report quickly, accurately and with integrity.
Comfort reading regulatory materials and industry documents.
Experience with multimedia storytelling, including podcasting, video or on‑camera work.
Comfort speaking publicly, including moderating panels or participating in live or recorded discussions.
Understanding of using social media as a reporting and audience‑growth tool.
Collaborative mindset, strong news judgment and enthusiasm for building expertise over time.

Salary: The expected base salary for these positions ranges from $60,000 to $70,000. Salary offers are based on a broad scope of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, licensure or certifications obtained. Market, geographic and organizational factors are also considered.
