As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer on the Amazon Leo Government (ALG) squad, your focus will be on designing and developing embedded software for our satellite and ground systems. You will work on real-time platforms that are fault-tolerant and closely collaborate with hardware, systems, and product teams to create secure, reliable, and high-performance software solutions. This is a unique chance to influence the future of space-based communication systems without the restraints of legacy systems. Your contributions will be vital in supporting essential government initiatives and ensuring secure, high-performance communication for U.S. and allied missions. This position is based in Northridge, El Segundo, Seattle, or Arlington, with U.S. relocation benefits available. Please note that onsite attendance is required five days a week. Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and enhance embedded software for satellite and ground terminal systems with a focus on fault tolerance and real-time performance. Utilize modern application frameworks for Embedded Linux and RTOS platforms to create scalable and high-performance software. Implement and integrate software for data processing, device control, and networking protocols such as TCP/IP and UDP. Develop low-level drivers for various peripherals and interfaces, including I2C, SPI, PCIe, UART, and GPIO. Collaborate with hardware teams for board bring-up and integration testing. Lead security initiatives that include bootloaders, cryptography, and secure Software Development Lifecycle practices. Diagnose and resolve complex hardware-software integration challenges using diagnostic tools like logic analyzers and oscilloscopes. Work alongside cross-functional teams to ensure seamless and reliable hardware-software interactions. Mentor junior engineers, conduct design reviews, and maintain high standards of software quality. About the Team: The Amazon Leo Government (ALG) team is a multidisciplinary group focused on creating scalable solutions for custom satellite and ground applications. Our Device Software team is dedicated to developing embedded software that meets the specific needs of U.S. and allied government clients. We work closely with hardware and systems teams to deliver secure and high-performance solutions for mission-critical applications. Basic Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. A minimum of 5 years of professional software development experience. At least 5 years of experience in programming with one or more software languages. Over 4 years of experience leading design or architecture for new and existing systems. Demonstrated experience mentoring team members or leading engineering teams. 3+ years of programming experience in C, C++, or Rust specifically for resource-constrained systems. Proficiency in debugging, optimization, and integration of hardware-software systems. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in computer science or a related field. 5+ years experiencing the full software development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, and testing. 3+ years managing architecture and design for fault-tolerant, real-time systems. Hands-on experience with Xilinx platforms and custom silicon development, along with knowledge of cryptography and secure Software Development Lifecycle practices. In-depth understanding of Linux kernel internals, including process scheduling and memory management. Familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP) and low-level hardware interfaces such as I2C, SPI, and PCIe. The base salary range for this position is as follows: $168,100.00 - $227,400.00 annually, depending on location in Los Angeles County, CA, or Arlington, VA, or Redmond, WA. Your compensation package will include sign-on bonuses and restricted stock units, with final amounts contingent upon experience and qualifications.
