Our AI and Data Analytics (AIDA) Division utilizes state-of-the-art technologies and expertise to address intricate data and analytic challenges. We invite passionate individuals who are eager to make a difference in national security and scientific innovation to join our internship program. Responsibilities The National Security Internship Program (NSIP) at PNNL seeks enthusiastic undergraduate students ready to immerse themselves in impactful research. You will tackle complex issues in vital areas such as national security and energy, applying leading-edge research along with advanced data solutions. The internship offers practical experience in coding, participation in cyber competitions, visualization design, and optimization of big data. The internship will commence with cohorts starting in May or June 2026. Diverse Focus Areas: Math, Stats, and Data Science:
Harness mathematical modeling, computational statistics, and theoretical frameworks to approach challenging problems. Relevant fields include Applied Mathematics, Machine Learning, and Operations Research.
Applied AI Systems:
Construct resilient models that transform complex data into actionable insights, improving decision-making in operational contexts. Key areas include Artificial Intelligence and Computer Vision.
Foundational Data Science:
Innovate new algorithms and solutions to enhance data understanding necessary for informed decision-making. Relevant fields include AI, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing.
Software Engineering & Architectures:
Design scalable, cloud-based software solutions for extensive data analytics, adhering to best practices in software development, including Agile methodologies.
Human Centered Computing:
Integrate interactive visualizations with advanced analysis methods to elevate user insights through effective design and engineering approaches.
Operational Readiness & Enablement:
Focus on developing high-quality, scalable cloud solutions while following software development best practices and project management principles.
Positions are primarily based in Richland or Seattle, WA. On-site work is required, with remote arrangements considered only under exceptional circumstances. Must be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at an accredited institution.
Must be enrolled in at least six credit hours with a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher.
Preferred Qualifications: Disciplines of interest may include Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, and other related fields.
Additional Information This position requires access to sensitive systems and information; therefore, U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
