Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant with approximately 3 years of experience in bookkeeping and tax preparation within a public accounting or CPA firm environment.
This role will support day-to-day bookkeeping, tax compliance, and financial reporting for a portfolio of corporate and individual clients. The ideal candidate is technically strong, highly organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
Bookkeeping & Financial Reporting
Maintain accurate general ledgers for multiple corporate clients
Record daily transactions and perform account reconciliations (bank, credit card, intercompany, payroll)
Prepare adjusting journal entries and working papers
Assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures
Prepare financial statements and supporting schedules
Tax & Compliance Support
Prepare and support T1, T2, and GST/HST returns
Assist with payroll remittances, WSIB, and other statutory filings
Organize client documentation and prepare tax working papers
Support CRA correspondence and client inquiries
Ensure compliance with Canadian accounting and tax regulations
Client Support & Administration
Communicate directly with clients to collect required documentation
Assist with bookkeeping clean-up projects and catch-up work
Maintain organized digital files and ensure confidentiality of client data
Support senior accountants and tax managers during busy season
Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of bookkeeping experience, preferably within a public accounting or CPA firm
Hands-on experience preparing Canadian tax filings (T1, T2, GST/HST)
Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll and compliance requirements
Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Xero, Sage, or similar)
Experience with tax software (e.g., TaxPrep, Profile, or similar) considered an asset
Post-secondary diploma or degree in Accounting or related field
Working toward CPA designation (asset but not required)
