Your opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, Office of the Dean and under the functional supervision of the Lead, Communications and Marketing Officer, the Communications & Multimedia Specialist is a creative, engaged, and proactive professional with an eye for storytelling through graphic design, videography, photographic images, and writing.
The Communications & Multimedia Specialist will be responsible for producing compelling communication, promotional and outreach content/digital stories across many channels that will engage prospective students, alumni, partners and the broader public. The Communications & Multimedia Specialist will gather relevant and newsworthy content, coordinate the preparation of images and copy for story generation, and write and edit targeted communications to support strategic initiatives with a focus on engaging students to tell their stories and share their authentic experiences. The incumbent will determine technical requirements for graphic design production or projects, format graphic design materials for print, and maintain information on a website according to objectives and/or user feedback.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing digital communication plans across a broad range of marketing/communication channels
  • Writing and editing targeted communications including writing copy to support strategic initiatives and producing promotional and outreach materials. Gathering of relevant or newsworthy content
  • Creating and producing graphic designs that reflect departmental and/or divisional objectives
  • Implementing social media campaigns and creating, maintaining and growing presence on social media platforms
  • Designing graphic elements for digital and online media and maintaining information on a website
  • Conducting photography and/or videography shoots and editing post-production audio and/or visual material
  • Assessing print and digital materials for consistency of graphic elements and appropriate layout of text
  • Verifying that all digital communication collateral adheres to brand identity and University style guides

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field such as Graphic Design, Communications, Content Marketing or similar or acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in digital content creation and graphic design with a focus on storytelling including experience with the implementation/maintenance and growth of social media campaigns on a variety of social media platforms within a complex organizational work setting.
  • Experience planning and implementing digital communication plans across a broad range of marketing/communication channels.
  • Experience writing and editing targeted communications including writing copy accompanied by graphics/videos to support strategic initiatives. Experience producing promotional and outreach materials and gathering of relevant or newsworthy content.
  • Experience creating and producing graphic designs that reflect departmental and/or divisional objectives.
  • Experience designing graphic elements for digital and online media and maintaining information on websites.
  • Experience producing images, videos, reels, and graphics, including being captured at live events, that are dynamic in nature and are reflective of design excellence.
  • Experience assessing print and digital materials for consistency of graphic elements and appropriate layout of text.
  • Experience verifying that all digital communication collateral adheres to brand identity.
  • Experience with animation and motion graphics.
  • Advanced experience with producing multimedia promotional and outreach materials using Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, Acrobat), Canva or other design software.
  • Extensive experience working with the following social media platforms: Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, or comparable platforms within a complex organizational work setting.
  • Experience maintaining, customizing websites, and advising on website content/design within WordPress, Drupal, or comparable system.
  • Demonstrated strong visual/design sensibility.
  • High level of organizational and attention to detail skills.
  • Strong time management skills and ability to work independently, and within a team environment, collegially and effectively.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences.

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Demonstrated experience working in a design and/or academic environment.
  • Experience working with marketing programs targeted at student populations.

Pay Scale Group & Hiring Zone:
USW Pay Band $76,577. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $97,928. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
