The Human Resources Generalist will support day-to-day HR operations across the full employee lifecycle. This role is responsible for employee relations, performance management, payroll administration, leave and benefits administration, recruitment and onboarding, and organizational compliance. The HR Generalist will ensure consistent application of company policies, compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws, and effective management of protected leave, workers' compensation, and health and safety requirements. This position requires strong organizational skills and sound judgment. The ability to communicate effective in both English and Spanish is preferred.
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Review, correct, and approve employee timecards to ensure accurate payroll processing
- Maintain employee records and personnel files
- Serve as primary point-of-contact for employee relations
- Coach supervisors through disciplinary actions in accordance with company policy, ensuring proper documentation and consistency
- Conduct employee performance evaluations, including 90-day introductory reviews
- Administer employee Paid Time Off (PTO) and Paid Sick Leave (PSL), ensuring compliance with protected leave laws
- Track and administer FMLA and CFRA leave requirements, including employee communication, documentation, and return-to-work coordination
- Ensure employees returning from illness or injury complete required food safety health clearances prior to returning to work
- Administer workers' compensation claims, including reporting, coordination with medical providers, and follow-up
- Support recruitment efforts by sourcing, screening candidates, and coordinating interviews
- Manage the employee lifecycle (onboarding & offboarding)
- Administer and maintain employee benefits programs
- Monitor changes in federal, state, and local employment regulations and update the employee handbook and company policies to ensure ongoing compliance
- Communicate effectively with employees and management in both English and Spanish
- Other duties as assigned
Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher and/or the equivalent of 3+ years of general HR experience
- Knowledge of employment laws (FMLA, ADA, FLSA, California-specific laws)
- Strong problem-solving, judgment, and conflict-resolution ability
- Ability to maintain confidence, confidentiality, and composure during sometimes difficult or complex situations
- Customer-service mindset and approachable demeanor
- Strong Microsoft Office skills
- Fluency in both English and Spanish is preferred
Physical requirements
- Must be able to life and carry up to 20 lbs
- Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged period of time
