Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and detail-oriented Veterinary Assistant to join our veterinary team. This role provides essential support in animal care, client communication, and clinic operations. The ideal candidate will have experience in animal husbandry, veterinary procedures, and clinic assistance, contributing to the well-being of our animal patients and supporting our veterinary staff. Prior kennel experience, veterinary technician background, or veterinary clinic experience are highly valued. Duties
- Assist with animal restraint during examinations and procedures to ensure safety for both animals and staff
- Administer medications and vaccinations following veterinary instructions and aseptic techniques
- Support animal handling tasks including dog handling, equine care, and general pet care responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kennels, treatment areas, and laboratory equipment using proper aseptic techniques
- Assist with laboratory procedures such as sample collection, processing, and basic diagnostics
- Help with animal husbandry tasks including feeding, grooming, and monitoring health status
- Support front desk operations by scheduling appointments, managing client communications, and maintaining accurate records
- Perform basic animal anatomy and physiology assessments as directed by veterinary staff
- Assist with complex procedures such as animal catheterization or other specialized treatments requiring veterinary terminology knowledge
- Contribute to emergency critical care situations by providing support under supervision
Qualifications
- Previous pet care background preferred; veterinary assistant or technician experience is highly desirable
- Knowledge of animal handling techniques across various species including dogs and horses
- Familiarity with veterinary terminology, laboratory procedures, and aseptic techniques
- Experience with medication administration, animal restraint, and basic laboratory work
- Strong understanding of animal anatomy, physiology, and pet care best practices
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting animals or equipment safely and effectively
- Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Prior veterinary clinic experience is a plus but not mandatory; training will be provided for the right candidate
