EMT Skills Instructor

Project Heartbeat, an American Heart Association Training Center and NREMT Approved EMT Training Center is currently searching for Per Diem, Part time, and Full time EMT Instructors. EMT experience required. Additional teaching experience preferred. Training provided for RN/Paramedic/EMTs seeking to transition to becoming an instructor

Position Summary:

This EMT instructor will teach Emergency Medical Technician - Basic (EMT- B) theory and lab courses. Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations; inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed and required documents and reports; and maintain required student attendance and scholastic records. Review of curriculum and assessment of student learning. Full Time and part-time positions available. The teaching assignment may require teaching lecture-discussion courses during day, evening or on Saturday and/or in an on-line/distance education format.

Qualified candidates must have two years (1) of professional experience OR Any associate degree and six years (2) of professional experience AND qualified applicants must possess current California licensure or certification as a: Physician, Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant, Paramedic, Advanced EMT, or EMT AND two (1) years of academic or clinical experience in emergency medicine or pre-hospital care in the last five (5) years; AND at least two (1) years of academic or clinical experience in the practice of emergency medicine or pre-hospital care in the last five (5) years

Desired Qualification: Be approved by the Program Director in conjunction with the clinical coordinator as qualified to instruct the topics assigned, AND documented completion of a minimum of a 40 hour teaching methodology course (NAEMSE). Knowledge of teaching; multiple teaching methods which include critical thinking and problem solving strategies; and college academic requirements and standards Sensitivity to students from diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds, (including those with disabilities, who have wide ranges of abilities). Candidates must possess a commitment to encouragement of learning and an enthusiastic attitude toward learning. Must have ambulance experience. No exceptions.

Instructor Responsibilities:

• Provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations.
• Inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations.
• Meet administrative time lines and submit completed and required documents and reports.
• Maintain required student attendance and scholastic records.
• Participate in division staff meetings.
• Keep Student learning outcomes current and assess courses.
• Review of curriculum and assessment of student learning. Instructors must also provide instruction in accordance with established course outlines and expectations; review curriculum and assess student learning; inform students about course requirements; prepare and grade assignments and examinations; meet administrative timelines and submit completed and required documents and reports; maintain required student attendance and scholastic records, and both communicate and work effectively with others.

Qualifications:

- EMT, Paramedic *OR Qualified Provider with minimum 1 year field experience

• The ability to communicate and demonstrate all EMT Skills

• Demonstrate a confident level of public speaking

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required; professionalism essential

• Also required are a customer service orientation, a teamwork approach, flexibility, organizational and problem-solving skills

Compensation:

$24-$28 depending on experience
