Description The Instructional Designer is an innovative leader committed to the mission, vision, and values of Northland Pioneer College (NPC). The Instructional Designer reports directly to the Faculty in Instructional Support/Chair of the Instructional Support Department, works directly with faculty on course design for academic programs in collaboration with the Faculty in Instructional Support/Department Chair and Curriculum Coordinator. Responsibilities include teaching 6 credits annually as a 12‑month faculty position, participating in planning, implementation, and assessment activities for faculty teaching online, hybrid, and face‑to‑face courses, and emphasizing culturally inclusive pedagogy/andragogy, Universal Design, and Open Educational Resources. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Positively support and promote the college, governing board, administrators, faculty, staff, students, and community. Collaborate with faculty to apply knowledge of effective pedagogy/andragogy, culturally responsive and inclusive instruction, use of Open Educational Resources, instructional design processes, and universal accessibility standards. Work with faculty to develop varied components of instruction, including videos, asynchronous and synchronous learning materials, and active learning opportunities. Serve as expert resource for faculty in the application of best practices for distance learning course instruction and facilitation to ensure quality engagement. Interpret and disseminate data regarding student success in courses, emphasizing opportunities/solutions for areas of improvement. Stay current on emerging instructional technology trends in higher education. Provide training and support to faculty in integrating various technologies to improve the design and delivery of course content and material. Assist in the development, dissemination, and assessment of appropriate course outcomes, standards, and best practices, including effective use of the college’s learning management system. Collaborate with the Faculty in Instructional Support/Department Chair and Curriculum Coordinator in providing workshops for faculty and instructional support staff. Provide support to faculty and students in the use of the learning management system. Travel between multiple campuses and locations. Perform related work as required. Probationary faculty are required to complete the Instructional Skills Workshop (ISW) training within the probationary period and are strongly encouraged to complete it in their first year. Probationary faculty are not eligible to receive additional compensation for completing the training. Must have demonstrated experience with 21st‑century teaching modalities that involve technology. Proficiency: Advanced. Physical: Ability to perform the following physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodation: general vision (corrected to 20/20), hearing or listening in the normal range (corrected), and speaking and giving directions. Proficiency: Basic. Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in education, technology, or a related field. Experience in the use of learning management systems, preferably Blackboard. 1‑2 years of experience designing and/or teaching synchronous and asynchronous distance learning courses. Experience with Universal Design and ADA standards. Preferred Qualifications Doctorate in Education, Instructional Technology/Design, Distance Education, or a related field. Community college teaching experience. Experience serving as an Instructional Designer supporting faculty in the design, development, and technology in higher education. Experience in supporting faculty in the adoption of Open Educational Resources (OERs). Experience with Quality Matters as a means of continuous improvement. Terms of Employment 3‑4 year probationary period.
