HPC System Administrator
We are looking for an HPC System Administrator to join our HPC Systems Operation group. You'll be responsible for the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and optimization of our HPC clusters, ensuring maximum performance and availability. These HPC clusters comprise the national supercomputer at LRZ as well as additional state-wide HPC clusters of various size.
- Deploy, configure, and maintain HPC clusters.
- Automate routine tasks using scripting (Bash, Python).
- Operate Ethernet networks and HPC interconnects.
- Maintain system security, apply patches, and implement security measures.
- Hunt and fix bugs, often in collaboration with vendor companies.
- Document systems and procedures.
- University degree (master or above) in computer science, mathematics, or natural sciences
- At least three years of experience in high-performance computing
- Solid experience with Linux servers in a large-scale environment
- Proficiency in the system administration of Linux servers including security considerations and hardening
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (e.g. Shell, Python)
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Excellent German and English in writing and speaking
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in the installation and operation of Linux clusters with cluster-management tools like xCAT or confluent
- Experience with Ethernet networks, High-Performance Interconnects, and Parallel Filesystems.
- Knowledge about compiled programming languages (e.g. C, C++)
- Ability to develop and implement practical solutions autonomously as well as in a team
- Service-oriented attitude
