About the Role We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented
Design Engineer
to join our Technical Assistance team in Newport News, Virginia. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic industrial environment supporting heavy machinery, automation systems, and engineering projects.
As a Design Engineer, you will collaborate closely with on-site supervisors, technicians, clients, and engineering teams to provide technical support, optimize existing fixture designs, and contribute to the development of innovative engineering solutions. This position is ideal for early-career engineers looking to gain hands‑on experience in design, manufacturing support, and industrial operations.
Key Responsibilities
Provide engineering support and technical assistance to the on‑site team.
Support mechanical supervisors and technicians with design‑related questions and troubleshooting activities.
Prepare, review, and maintain engineering and technical documentation.
Perform design improvements and optimization of existing fixtures deployed at client facilities.
Assist clients with engineering requests related to current and future fixture designs.
Gather operational feedback and provide regular reports regarding fixture performance and improvement opportunities.
Collaborate with the on‑site team to conduct preliminary engineering studies and feasibility assessments for customer requests.
Support the development of project scopes, technical proposals, and budget estimates.
Ensure engineering solutions meet quality, safety, and operational requirements.
Qualifications Required
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
0–2 years of engineering experience (entry‑level candidates are encouraged to apply).
Ability to read, interpret, and create technical drawings and engineering documentation.
Experience with 3D CAD modeling software; CATIA experience is strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of hydraulic systems and mechanical equipment.
Excellent problem‑solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Ability to adapt quickly in a fast‑paced industrial environment.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
Valid driver's license.
Ability to pass a background screening.
Preferred
Experience in industrial machinery, automation, manufacturing, or heavy equipment environments.
Familiarity with fixture design and mechanical system optimization.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and engineering best practices.
