Working across the lifecycle of projects we assure the reliability and integrity of critical equipment and operations.Our reputation is built on the quality of our people, all of which embody our culture for delivering excellence.**MAIN PURPOSE:**Alpha Offshore Service, a Sparrows Group company, have since 2007 built our reputation as a preferred supplier of technical personnel, integrated engineering and inspection services to offshore and onshore wind energy projects, and work with wind farm operators and OEMs during the installation and commissioning, and operations and maintenance stages of developments.This position is for a travelling Wind Turbine Technician.
The Wind Turbine Technician utilizes skills and training to perform maintenance and/or installation and commissioning work on assigned turbines.
For this position, you will work at different job sites in the United States.Wind Turbine Technicians may specialize in tower construction/assembly, bolt torquing, or mechanical/hydraulic/electrical troubleshooting, but should be able to provide basic maintenance and installation work.**MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:**Follow defined schedules and procedures including safety protocol, turbine service and/or installation processes, and other verbal and written instructionClimb wind turbine towers daily, wearing all required safety equipmentUnderstand electrical and mechanical functions of all components of a wind turbine generator and associated equipmentPerforms intermediate level wind turbine maintenance and/or installation and commissioning tasks as assigned. This includes proficient operation and use of tools (including but not limited to specialized calibration, hydraulic, power tools) and basic turbine equipmentTakes direction from Site Manager or Line manager; informs management of any issues preventing performance of tasks.Effectively gathers information regarding turbine performance / issues. May diagnose, recommend, and implement solutions up to intermediate routine issues. Seeks assistance when encountering turbine issues outside trained skill level to ensure success in resolutionMay perform retrofits and QA/QC Inspections of wind turbine generators and assist in main component exchangesDocuments work and tasks where required and enters data into customer’s system (such as SAP) or forms as requiredFollows basic structured problem-solving process to complete troubleshooting and diagnostic tasks to include the use of diagnostic tools (e.g. basic fluke meter functions, hydraulic pressure gauge).Complies with all Site Safety policies and proceduresIndependently initiates and performs most work tasks as well as follows defined instructions and maintenance schedules, executing plans as directed and performs according to written and verbal instruction from higher level technical staff.Effectively promotes strong team environment through assisting team mates in accomplishing goals as well as mentoring lower level technical staff. Visibly supports and promotes team spirit and cooperation, and supports change initiativesDemonstrates and promotes integrity, strong initiative, as well as a no-compromise focus on safety and quality of work on a continuous basisActs as a safety role model, encourages and recognizes others completing safe acts and intervenes when unsafe acts are being practiced. Adheres to all safety standards and procedures. Identifies gaps in safety standards as well as safety risks in the environment, implements effective risk mitigation and provides recommendations to higher level technical staff and managementPerform other tasks as assigned**SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:**High school diploma or equivalentMinimum one (1) year technical wind industry experience, OR six (6) months technical wind industry experience and a certificate of completion from a Wind Technician program, OR in absence of technical wind industry experience, minimum three (3) years' experience working with hydraulic, electrical, mechanical skills and/or composite skillsDemonstrated use and understanding of intermediate level power tools such as hydraulic, power torque and diagnostic tools (e.g. fluke meter functions and hydraulic pressure gauge).Ability to demonstrate intermediate working knowledge of industrial safety practices / protocols (e.g. Confined Space, energy isolation).Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record.
No record of DUI, DWI, or refusal to test within previous 2 yearsStrong attention to detail and execution excellence.Strong communication skillsGood interpersonal and customer relation skills.Able to effectively collaborate with employees at all professional levels and ability to respectfully follow supervision and support initiatives.Basic computer operation skills, familiarity with internet based program navigation, and ability to generate and interpret computer data.Ability to read, interpret and understand drawings and schematics to validate work activity and ensure that risks are identified and mitigated.**Additional Requirements**Ability and willingness to travel for extended periods of time working weekends, holidays, and overtimeAbility and willingness to be available for adhoc or rotation shift schedule 24 hours, 7 days a week, at times with short noticeAbility to read, comprehend and write in English.Ability and willingness to read, interpret technical manuals, procedures, and regulationsAbility to climb stairs and ladders 100-400ft in height.Ability to lift, push, pull, carry items up to 50 lbs in weight.Ability to meet specific OSHA weight limits of 250-300lbs maximum when wearing all equipmentAbility to stand, stoop, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods of time.Ability to grip and manually manipulate, often with repetitive motion, items such as, but not limited to, hand tools, power tools, turbine parts.Comfort working in confined spaces and at heights over 300 feet.Ability to successfully participate in all training courses, including high-angle rescue and training.Periodic walking.Ability to hear and use close range radios.Strong field of vision including visual depth perception and ability to distinguish colours.Able to work in demanding physical and inclement weather conditions.Comfort working remotely with limited supervisory interaction**Desired Characteristics**Experience with GE, Siemens, or Vestas turbinesLOTO experience is highly preferredGE, Siemens, or Vestas Certification is highly preferredWorking knowledge of crane and rigging requirementsOSHA-10, NFPA 70E, First Aid/CPR, Climbing and Tower Rescue certificatesConfined Space Entry and Rescue certificates**HSEQ RESPONSIBILITIES:**It is mandatory that the incumbent is familiar with the Company's HSEQ Policy and takes an active role in the compliance and improvement of Sparrows Integrated Management System.
The incumbent must report any incidents, near misses, actual or potential problems with products, services or systems to their Line Manager.The incumbent also has legal responsibilities under country-specific health and safety legislation to follow all Company processes and procedures and familiarise themselves with the emergency response arrangements applicable to them.
