We are currently hiring a SENIOR SYSTEMS ADMINISTRATOR (UNIX/LINUX) to provide IT infrastructure support for a Government customer.

This position is located on-site in Fredericksburg, VA.
Position Description:
The Senior Systems Administrator (UNIX/Linux) will provide expert-level support for classified and unclassified IT infrastructure operations under a Department of Defense (DoD) contract. This role is responsible for the administration, configuration, and maintenance of UNIX/Linux systems across multiple environments, ensuring high availability, security compliance, and performance optimization. The candidate will support system backups and recovery, software and patch management, and troubleshooting of complex hardware/software/network issues. This position requires close collaboration with cybersecurity, network engineering, and IT service management teams to support mission-critical operations and digital transformation initiatives.
Required Skills:
Administer and maintain UNIX/Linux systems (e.g., RedHat, CentOS, Solaris, AIX, OpenVMS) in classified and unclassified environments Perform system backups, disaster recovery, and bare-metal restores using tools such as Dell EMC, Networker, and Clonezilla Configure and maintain system security in compliance with DoD STIGs and cybersecurity directives (e.g., IAVMs, CTOs) Manage and troubleshoot network protocols (e.g., TCP/IP) and security tools (e.g., firewalls, IDS/IPS) Support patch management, antivirus updates, and vulnerability remediation Provide support for virtualization and cloud platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V, AWS, Azure) Maintain system documentation, architecture diagrams, and configuration baselines Collaborate with Change Advisory Boards (CABs) and Configuration Control Boards (CCBs) Respond to incidents and outages, including after-hours support for mission-essential systems Participate in system design, testing, and deployment of new capabilities and upgrades Required Experience:
Minimum of 6 years of professional experience in UNIX and/or Linux system administration Experience in system backup and recovery; basic software management; security management and library management; installation and configuration of hardware; operational systems and COTS software; operating computer systems in different operating environments; sizing, performance, tuning, hardware/software/network trouble shooting and resource allocation Experience in different network protocols including TCP/IP and major network security tools such as firewalls, knowledge of computing and networking vulnerabilities, attack methods, and latest detection methods Education:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience) Required Certifications:
DoD 8570.01-M compliant certification (e.g., Security+ CE, CISSP, or equivalent) Preferred: Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE)
